 49er, 49erFX, Nacra 17 World Championship 2016 Clearwater FL, USA Day 2
The rough condition with an up to 20 kn breeze and short, steep choppy waves persisted on day 2 of the Clearwater World Championships. In the skiffs, only the 49erFX sailed a race, the first one, as they stayed ashore on day one. This time, the 49ers left the day out.
A very busy day however had the Nacra 17 completing four races. And again, the experienced teams ruled the show, lead by the superior defending champions Billy Besson/Marie Riou FRA winning two heats and extending their overall lead on 10 points. Allan Norregaard/Annette Viborg DEN, out on day one after capsizing, moved up on rank 2 with four one-digit finishes. Moana Vaireaux/Manon Audinet FRA follow on rank 3. The report of the Nacras.
The 49ersFX inactive on day one were the first starters yesterday, but they were called ashore again after completing one race because of the too difficult conditions. Winners in their groups were Maiken Foght/Anne-Julie Schütt DEN and Annemiek Bekkering/Annette Duetz NED. Echegoyen/Betanzos ESP and Meyer Stoffers GER were 2nds each and Dobson/Ainsworth GBR and Lloyd/Elks AUS finished 3rd in their fleets.
Winning the only race yesterday, Warrer/Thomsen DEN and Burling/Tuke NZL first in their groups lead overall in the 49ers. The 49er news.
