X-40-Catamaran - Extreme Sailing Series - Act 5 - Cowes GBR - Final Results

 X-40-Catamaran - Extreme Sailing Series - Act 5 - Cowes GBR - Final Results The eventful Act 5 of the Extreme Sailing Series ended yesterday for the first time during this event in more moderate conditions with a 11-13 kn breeze. And it was once more the last race deciding on the overall victory, as 'The Wave - Muscat' with the English Tornado-Olympian Leigh McMillan steering catched rank one overall ahead of 'Luna Rossa' with Paul Campbell-James GBR, winners of the last race. Finishing 3rd, 'Alinghi' with Tanguy Cariou FRA realised the first podium this year since their comeback this year. The final report.

 X-40-Catamaran - Extreme Sailing Series 2011 - Cowes GBR - Day 6 The wind kept on blowing strongly off Cascais yesterday, and the RC decided to split the 12-cats'-fleet again in two groups for safety reasons, but the use of the Gennaker was allowed this time. Before the last day of the events today. 'The Wave - Muscat' with Leigh McMillan GBR is still ahead with a 10 points' lead on 'Luna Rossa' with Paul Campbell-James GBR. Among the winners of the day was 'Alinghi' with Tanguy Cariou FRA, advancing on rank 3, six points on 'Groupe Edmond de Rothschild' with Pierre Pennec FRA. The English 'Aberdeen Asset Management' with the 49er crack John Pink GBR steering turned over in a gust. Squeezed between two other competitors, there was no lee-way to bear off, and the nose-over was inevitable. Here the video. In the overall rankings, 'Luna Rossa' with Paul Campbell-James GBR remains on top with Pierre Pennec FRA and his 'Groupe Edmond de Rothschild' (with redress given after Sunday's collision with 'Artemis') following as 2nd only 0,6 points behind.  X-40-Catamaran - Extreme Sailing Series - Act 5 - Cowes GBR - Day 2 The breeze exceeding 30 kn induced the Race Committee to split the fleet in two 6-boat groups for safety reaseons, and the X-40 cats sailed with reefs and without gennakers. Nevertheless a massive crash happened in the first race of the second group, taking 'Artemis' and 'Groupe Edmond de Rothschild' out of the race for the day. Here the video. In the overall rankings, 'Luna Rossa' with last year's winner Paul Campbell-James GBR steering has taken the lead, followed by 'The Wave - Muscat'. Looking for spectacular races very close to the shore, Cowes with a big well-informed crowd was definitely the place to go, compared to the AC-45 at Cascais. The report of the day and the results.
