News from World Sailing details on the dismissal of the former CEO Peter Sowery
After only 5 months in charge, the (then) ISAF CEO Peter Sowery GBR left the office in last autumn. In an interview with Associate Press, Sowery gives his view on the case. He was fired, as he firmly proposed to remove the Olympic Sailing competition from the heavily polluted Guanabara-Bucht to Buzios, 150 km North of Rio. (This alternative had been proposed by Brazilian Oiympians supported by the former ISAF President Paul Henderson months ago, but ISAF, as in the Malaysia Israeli Visa issue, did not act). ISAF President Carlo Croce ITA and his Executive Committee disliked Sowrey's strong position in this matter and fired him.
