470 World Championship 2016 Buenos Aires ARG Day 5 the Swiss
Fresh winds above 15 kn prevailed for the first time at the end of the Final Series races on the Rio de la Plata yesterday.
With the day ranks 12 and 7, Yannick Brauchli/Romuald Hausser SUI had their best day and concluded the World Championship on the 15th position. As 14th nation, at equal points with the 13th, they missed the Swiss Olympic selection criterium, i.e. nation rank 12, with 17 points. At the Palma Trofeo Sofia over Easter, they will have a last opportunity to qualify for the Olympics.
Palma will also be the last chance for Linda Fahrni/Maja Siegenthaler SUI and a major performance increase is mandatory for an Olympic ticket. Contrary to the men's 470, they mastered the Swiss Olympic objective last year already, but they still lack the World Sailing nations' berth for the Olympic 470 women's fleet. During these Worlds, they had good results in the first races, staying in the top-10, but second half of the competition was disappointing with ranks in the second half of the fleet only. Also yesterday, their 34th and 17th place did not help to recover from the downer two days ago. They terminate the event on rank 21.
