IMOCA Open 60, Class 40, Multi 50, Ultime The Transat New York USA Day 12
Two classes will terminate the Transat today: Armel Le Cléac'h FRA ('Banque Populaire') leading in the Open 60s was 59 miles from the arrival in New York this morning. Vincent Riou FRA, 36 miles behind, will hardly succeed to overtake the leader. In the Multi 50, the unchallenged winner of the Atlantic crossion will be Gilles Lamiré FRA, 161 miles from the finish line this morning, who has an over-a-day lead on the 2nd Lalou Roucayrol FRA. Bad luck for the leading Isabelle Joschke GER/FRA (photo) in the Class 40 who had to veer round with a hole in the hull. Thibault Vauchel FRA has now taken the lead 9 miles ahead of Phil Sharp GBR. Not only Isabelle Joschke GER/FRA had to abandon the race because of equipment damage, but also Richard Tolkien GBR had to leave the race and his Open 60 after an incident. Doing repairs on the foredeck, he was injured on the head and had to be evaquated by a cargo ship.
