Overcast skies but fair wind conditions prevailed on the first day of the 134th Kiel Week yesterday for the 14 International Classes as well as the bigboats sailing under IRC and ORC formulas.
The 29ers have already completed 5 races and Peter Van Lejen/Daniel Bramervaer NED lead ahead of Bennet Steffens/Moritz Block GER. Tamara Baumann/Sophie Brée SUI follow on rank 78. In the 5o5, Wolfgang Hunger GER is aiming for his 21st Kiel Week victory, but after 3 races, the interim's leaders are Andy Smith/Tim Needham GBR ahead of Hunger/Kleinert GER. Ueli Marti/René Betschen SUI on rank 10 are the best of the 4 Swiss teams. Valérian Lebrun FRA is first in the Europes. Three races were completed in the Lasers 4.7 as well with Piet-Hein Kraan NED and Valeria Lomatschenko RUS on top at equal points. Gauthier Verhulst SUI follows on rank 13 among the 89 participants. In the Radials, Jamie Calder GBR is in the lead ahead of Hugo Svensson SWE. With 2 races of 3 won in the Musto Skiffs, Frithjof Schwerdt GER is on top of the rankings ahead of the recently crowned World Champion Andi Lachenschmid GER an. Roger Oswald SUI follows on rank 3.
