470 Men - Olympic Games 2016 - Day 11 - Medal Race - Gold for Fantela/Marenic CRO

The 470 men Medal Race was also extremely exciting as the positions on the podium were still undecided. Yannick Brauchli/Romuald Hausser SUI had a perfect start, opted for the right side on the first upwind and controlled the race to the finish. Their direct opponents for the diploma (rank 8) Bouvet/Mion FRA finished 4th and defended their diploma position. The Swiss finished 9th. The fight for Gold was decided before the Medal Race in favour of Sime Fantela/Igor Marenic CRO, the first Gold Medal in sailing for Croatia. After a close duel during the whole race, Matthew Belcher/Will Ryan AUS passed the Greeks on the last downwind and grasped Silver. Panagiotis Mantis/Pavlos Kagialis GRE finished 3rd.
