Sun and summery temperatures prevailed on the first day of the Melges 24 European Championship in Hyères FRA. Three races were sailed in a 15 to 25 kn westwind, and Geoff Carveth GBR and his team are the first leaders. Andrea Pozzi ITA and Chris Rast SUI follow tied on rank 2 with a 5 points' backlog. Jürg Hotz SUI and Michael Good SUI are on the ranks 26 and 27 among the 52 teams from 15 nations.
