IMOCA Open 60 Vendee Globe 2016/17 Day 51, Alan Roura SUI
Inspite of a backlog of almost 300 nm, the race for the lead at the Vendée Globe is still open after 50 race days. The leader Armel Le Cléac'h FRA has been slowed down by lulls in the South Atlantic, while Alex Thompson GBR has touched favorable conditions heading directly North at good speeds. He reduced his deficit substantially during the past 24 hours to 284 nm this morning. It might well be, that the Englishman will reclaim the lead in the next days. Jérémy Béyou FRA rounded Cape Horn this morning as 3rd. His backlog on the first place was 1'039 nm. Alan Roura SUI is still part of a group of 5 in the second half of the fleet occupying rank 13 for the moment.
