Trophee Jules Verne Trimaran IDEC Day 18
Yesterday, Francis Joyon FRA and his team passed Cape Leeuwin on the southwest point of Australia in the new record time of 17 days and 6 hours on their Maxi-Trimaran 'IDEC', roughly 17 hours faster as Loïck Peyron FRA on 'Banque Populaire V'. At the same time, the record across the Indian Ocean has been lowered on 4 days and 9 hours (35 kn average speed !), over a day faster as the previous record after almost one week at top speeds. During the past 24 hours, the wind decreased somehow, and for the first time, the distance covered was below 800 nm, i.e. "only" 754 mn. Nevertheless, the Maxi-Trimaran continues the record ride down in the Forties all on a straight line direction Pacific Ocean. This morning, the advantage on the record was up on 670 nm.
