IMOCA Open 60 - Vendée Globe 2016/17 - Day 72, Alan Roura SUI

Yesterday, Alex Thomson GBR achieved a new 24 hours' one-hand record with 536,9 nm (994 km), but at the end, the wind calmed and the backlog on the leader Armel Le Cléac'h FRA remained stable with 76 nm. The duo is now already on the latitude of Les Sables d'Olonne, and Armel Le Cléac'h FRA was only 600 nm from the finish this morning. However, a big lull zone blocks the direct course and easterly winds will force the duo to sail upwind .... nothing has been decided yet ! The positions 3 to 10 seem pretty firm, but the group of four, that rounded Cape Horn yesterday, is closer together. Alan Roura SUI on rank 13 in now only 80 nm behind rank 12 (Arnaud Boissières FRA).
