49er, 49erFX, ILCA 6 & 7 - Portugal Grand Prix - Vilamoura POR - Day 1

Competitive fleets tackled the first round of the Vilamoura Grand Prix yesterday in 12-15 knots of wind and decent waves. ----- In the 49er, a trio with equal points took the lead: World champions Bart Lambriex/Floris Van de Werken NED, Frederik Rask/Jakob Precht DEN and Lukasz Prszybytek/Jacek Piasecki POL each took first and second place in the fleet of 40 teams from 16 nations, which was divided into two groups. The newly formed team with Sébastien Schneiter/Arno De Planta SUI also started well at their regatta premiere, thanks to a 3rd race rank they are on rank 9. Joshua Richner/Nilo Schärer SUI follow on rank 25. ----- In the 49erFX, Antonia and Victoria Schultheiss MLT won both races and are already clearly leading ahead of Isaura Maenhout/Anouk Goerts BEL. ----- Two races each also for the ILCAs: Daisy Collingridge GBR is clearly leading in the ILCA 6 ahead of Monika Mikkola FIN. 51 participants from 15 nations are at the start. ----- In the ILCA 7, Elliot Hanson GBR won both races of the day, followed by Berkay Abay TUR in second place.
