IMOCA Open 60 - The Ocean Race - Science at sea

On their way around the globe, the teams sail through oceans that are hardly navigated. This is an opportunity for meteorology and oceanology to collect data in these areas. In the second leg, all the teams were deploying drifter buoys in the South Atlantic, which measure data on currents, waves, temperatures and salinity over a period of years. Some of the buoys dive to a depth of 2,000 metres and come up every 10 days to send the data from the surface. The video.
