420 - Regata Nazionale - Riva del Garda ITA - Day 2, the Swiss

 420 - Regata Nazionale - Riva del Garda ITA - Day 2, the Swiss The weather forecast was wrong yesterday with an overcast grey sky instead of sun over Lake Garda, and the afternoon 'Ora' thermal breeze was again absent. The slackening Northwind in the morning allowed just for one shortened. The big fleet was split in two groups, and in addition, a third group has been formed for international participants, as the 'Regata Nazionale' Championship according to the Italian 420 Class is open for only 10 non-Italian teams.
The day winners in their groups Niccolo Tognoni/Riccardo Zancan ITA and Demi Rio/Matteo Basson ITA are on top of the Regata Nazionale ranking list. The only Swiss team with a good result were Solène Mariani/Maud Schmid SUI as 8th of their group and herewith a 15th place overall. Nick Zeltner/Till Seger SUI are 77th, Morgan Lauber/Erwan Lamoureux SUI abndoned the race.
Winner of the international test event was Kike Lujan/ ? ESP ahead of Felix Kaiser/Samuel Störr GER on 2nd and Florian Geissbühler/Livi Erni SUI on 3rd. The 2nd-best Swiss team with Achille Casco/Manuel Herbst SUI is on the 11th position among the 26 teams.

 Dragon - International Italian Dragon Cup - San Remo ITA - Day 2, the Swiss One race was sailed in San Remo yesterday after the windless opening day. Steering the Turkish Provezza team Dragon, the winner of the day Andy Beadsworth GBR is on top of the overall rankings ahead of Pedro Andrade POR/GER and Yewgenij Braslavets UKR/UAE (tactics Diego Negri ITA). The team of Wolf Waschkuhn GER sailing under Swiss flag followed on rank 16, and Georg Rainer SUI was 26th among the 31 teams.

 420 - Regata Nazionale - Riva del Garda ITA - Day 1, the Swiss Yesterday, the 420 Regata Nazionale began on Lake Garda with 150 teams from 9 nations, among them a big Swiss delegation. For once, the Garda wind machine was out of work, and the very light slackening Southwind allowed for on an upwind leg before the race was abandoned. For today, sunny weather has been forecast and the 'Ora' breeze should fill in by early afternoon.

 Dragon - International Italian Dragon Cup - San Remo ITA - Day 1, the Swiss The international Dragon Cup in San Remo, announced as Italian Championship began yesterday with 31 teams from 11 nations, among them the favorites Jewgenij Braslavets UKR/UAE, Werner Fritz GER/RUS, Mikhail Senatorov RUS or Gavia Wilkinson-Cox GBR. Under Swiss flag sail Georg Rainer SUI and Wolf Waschkuhn SUI. Apparently, there was no racing yesterday, as the event website contains neither results nor news.

M32-Catamaran - World Match Racing Tour 2017 - Act 1 - Perth AUS - Day 2, the Swiss

 M32-Catamaran - World Match Racing Tour 2017 - Act 1 - Perth AUS - Day 2, the Swiss Racing is underway in Perth this morning, and two heats of the Round of 16 are already decided. Taylor Canfield ISV defeated Pieter-Jan Postma NED 3-0, Chris Steele NZL turned 2-0 backlog into a 3-2 victory against Jonas Warrer DEN. The Repechage of the backmarkers of each group was completed before with Postma NED eliminating Sally Barkow USA (with Elodie-Jane Mettraux SUI and Nathalie Brugger SUI) and George Anyon NZL.
The competition can be followed over a live feed. Beginning at 6 a.m. UTC, the livestream window on this website will be open. The fresh breeze reigning promises spectacular racing and capsizes are probably not excluded.

 'World Sailing' Offshore Safety Training - Sailing School Nessi - Brunnen The 'World Sailing Approved Offshore Personal Survival Training Course', a two-days course open for all sailors wishing to be able to handle an inflatable life raft and follow an comprehensive practical and theoretical training concerning safety onboard. Andreas Hanakamp AUT (Volvo Ocean Racer Skipper) ia directing this course, approved by World Sailing (former ISAF), the International Sailing Federation. Participation in this course will be confirmed with an official World Sailing Certificat. The acquired knowhow is not only crucial offshore, but in all sailing in challenging conditions.

 M32-Catamaran - World Match Racing Tour 2017 - Act 1 - Perth AUS - Day 1, the Swiss The first round of the World Match Racing Tour 2017 began yesterday on the Swan River in Perth AUS. The 18 teams, split in three groups of 6, sailed 4 qualification fleet races each.
The interim's leaders are Chris Steele NZL and Taylor Canfield ISV with 3 race wins as well as Yann Guichard FRA just one point ahead of Ian Williams and Torvar Mirsky AUS. The all-female 'Magenta' team of Sally Barkow USA (with Elodie-Jane Mettraux SUI and Nathalie Brugger SUI) is on the 4th place of their group.

 Match Racing - European Match Race Tour - Porto Montenegro - Tivat MNE - Final results, the Swiss Round 2 of the European Match Race Tour was held over the past weekend in Porto Montenegro in spring-like conditions. As in Round 1 in Sibenik CRO, the winner was Simon Bertheau FRA. He defeated Vladimir Lipavsky RUS in the final. Doré de Morsier SUI followed on rank 6 in his first participation in the Tour.

 M32-Catamaran - World Match Racing Tour 2017 - Act 1 - Perth AUS - Day 1, the Swiss The frist round of the World Match Racing Tour 2017 began in Perth AUS this morning. Contrary to last year, the M32 catamarans sail on the Swan River in the middle of the city, with the best matchracers of the past years and Worldchampions, Phil Robertson NZL, Ian Williams GBR and Taylor Canfield ISV racing. Eric Monnin SUI, Tour Card holder for 2017 does not compete. However, Switzerland is represented on the all-female 'Team Magenta' of Sally Barkow USA with the three-times Olympian Nathalie Brugger SUI and Elodie-Jane Mettraux SUI. Interesting will also be to follow the Finn Olympic Medalist Pieter-Jan Postma NED in his first appearance on the WMRT.

Optimist - Annual Points' Championship 2017, Act Lugano - CV Lago di Lugano - Final results

 Optimist - Annual Points' Championship 2017, Act Lugano - CV Lago di Lugano - Final results The wind forecast was wrong again yesterday, as the predicted Northwind did not materialise, and a Southwind filled in again .... late but fresh with 17 kn. Shortly before the time limit, a last race could be started. Adrian Surocca SNG won 3 of the 4 races of the weekend in his group and finished first ahead of Maxime Thommen YCZ and Maxim Dneprov SCC. Anja Von Allmen RCO on rank 5 was the best girl. Robin Imbert SNG on rank 36 was the best of the U12 sailors.

Bénéteau Figaro, Class 40 - Normandie Solo - Cherbourg FRA - Final results, Justine Mettraux SUI

 Bénéteau Figaro, Class 40 - Normandie Solo - Cherbourg FRA - Final results, Justine Mettraux SUI Charlie Dalin FRA crossed the finish line of the Figaro 280-Mile-Solo-Regatta 'Normandie Solo' as winner yesterday with a 13 minutes' advantage on Nicolas Lunven FRA on rank 2. Sébastien Simon FRA folllowed as 3rd. Justine Mettraux SUI finished on the remarkable 9th place among the 24 solo skippers. After a first phase in moderate winds, a fresh breeze of up to 30 kn filled in with a peak in the middle of the night, making the race quite challenging. For 7 participants, the wind was too strong and they had to abandon the race with damaged boats.

 Optimist - Annual Points' Championship 2017, Act Lugano - CV Lago di Lugano - Day 1 The forecast Northwind did not fill in, but warm temperatures in the sourrounding mountains produced a a moderate thermal breeze from the South - the 'Breva'. The 118 Optimists sailed three races. Unfortunately, the consolidated ranking list has not yet been posted on the event website ud-to-now, but the CVLL facebook page contains a short video.

 Bénéteau Figaro, Class 40 - Solo Normandie - Granville FRA - Day 1, Justine Mettraux SUI The French Solo Annual Championship 2017 was kicked-off yesterday with the Solo-Normandie in Granville. 24 Bénéteau Figaro and 3 Class 40 departed by noon in light winds, the Figaros to a 280 nm round course on St-Malo Bay, the Class 40 to an offshore course to Bournemouth GBR on the opposite side of the Channel. This morning, Alan Roberts GBR was in the lead in the Figaros closely followed by Alexis Loison FRA on 2nd and Yann Eliès FRA - again underway 2 months after finishing the Vendée Globe - on rank 3. Justine Mettraux SUI, erroneously returning after an assumed premature start, follows on rank 9 with a 5 nm backlog.

 J-Class - St-Barth's Bucket - St-Barthélemy - Day 3, the Swiss The 30th edition of the St-Bart's Bucket is being held on the French Caribbean Island St-Barthélemy. Over 30 superyacht participate, the smallest on with a length of 30 meters. The most attention this year goes to the six J-Class Yachts, the largest J-fleet since long of this measurement class boats launched in the 30ies of last century. Clear leader after 3 races is 'Velsheda' with 3 bullets, ahead of 'Hanuman', a replica, on rank 2. Among the participants is Christian 'Blumi' Scherrer SUI, trimmer of the 900m2 spinnaker on 'Topaz'.

 Initiatives Oceanes - Beach-cleaning weekend, Versoix as Swiss venue The Surfrider Foundation Europe program tackles the marine litter issue through education, citizen science and lobby, and everybody can be part of this initiative. On the coming weekends, Initiatives Oceanes organises beach-cleaning-actions all over the World, except North America, with an emphasis on Europe.
Here the map with action points, where everybody is invited to participate. The only Swiss location mentioned is Versoix/Lake Geneva.

 Olympic Classes - World Sailing Ranking Lists - March 2017, the Swiss The only Olympic Classes with World Ranking List events in the past month were the Lasers Standard and Radial. In all other classes, the classifications remained unchanged.
Mateo Sanz-Lanz SUI kept the top position in the RS:X windsurfers. The new number 1 in the Lasers Standard is Giovanni Coccoluto ITA. In the Lasers Radial, Evi Van Acker BEL advanced on the 2nd place behind Marit Bouwmeester NED. Maud Jayet SUI has reached her best-ever result moving up on the 25th position. Linda Fahrni/Maja Siegenthaler SUI are on rank 15 in the 470 women.

 Star - Star Sailors' League - World Ranking List - a new leader, the Swiss Top Star-Sailors'-League Ranking Points have been awarded at the Bacardi Cup, and the ranking list top position is new with Xavier Rohart FRA in the helmsmen and Pierre Alexis-Ponsot FRA in the crews, thanks to their 2nd place at the Bacardi. The best-ranked Swiss are Jean-Pascal Chatagny SUI as 36th helmsman and Patrick Ducommun SUI as 17th crew.

Olympic Classes, Musto-Skiff - Training Camps Regatta - El Arenal ESP - Final results, the Swiss

 Olympic Classes, Musto-Skiff - Training Camps Regatta - El Arenal ESP - Final results, the Swiss Training Camp Regattas were held on Mallorca from Friday till Sunday in light to moderate winds. Many teams, especially from Northern Europe, were present to prepare for the Trofeo Princesa Sofia in Palma beginning in two weeks.
Pawel Sozykin/Denis Gribanov RUS finished first in the 470 men (18 teams/9 nations) after 8 races. David Biedermann/Jann Schüpbach SUI finished 11th. Fabienne Oester/Anastasiya Krasko GER were on top of the 470 women (11 teams/5 nations), 5 points ahead of Linda Fahrni/Maja Siegenthaler SUI on rank 2 and Nadine Böhm/Ann-Christin Goliass GER on 3rd. 29 teams from 13 nations started in the 49ers with Diego Botin/Iago Lopez ESP as winners followed by Benjamin Hussl/David Bildstein AUT and Kevin Fischer/Yann Jovin FRA. In the 49erFX, Victoria Jurczok/Anika Lorenz GER were the dominating first, and a clear victory went also to Evi Van Acker BEL in the Lasers Radial ahead of Matilde de Kerangat FRA and Maite Carlier BEL. In the Lasers Stadard, Rui Silveira POR was on top in front of Nik Willim GER and Theodor Bauer GER. Iker Martinez/Olga Maslivets ESP finished first in the Nacra-17 ahead of Kevin Bonnevie/Isaura Maenhaut BEL. In addition to the Olympic Classes, the Musto-Skiffs were present as well with Justo Martinez ESP as winner in the all-Spanish fleet.

 Laser - Europacup 2017 - Koper SLO - Final results, the Swiss The Laser 2017 Europacup season began over the past weekend in Slovenia with four races sailed during three days in moderate, partly very unconstant conditions.
Winner in the Lasers Standard was Nicolo Villa ITA ahead of Zan Luka Zelko SLO and Nik Pletikos SLO. Best U21 helmsman was Arthur Baudet SUI on rank 5. Guido Gallinaro ITA won all 4 races in the largest fleet with 112 participants, the Lasers Radial. Francesco Viel ITA and as best woman Elisa Navoni ITA completed the podium. Zeno Fry SUI on rank 56 just made the first half of the fleet, thanks to a 2nd race rank on the final day. Felix Baudet SUI was the winner in the Lasers 4.7 (134 participants), followed by Janez Zabukovec SLO 2nd and Matteo Guardigli ITA 3rd. Philippe Tibaldo SUI (with a race win) is on the remarkable 11th place.

Star - Bacardi Cup - Miami FL, USA - Final results, the Swiss

 Star - Bacardi Cup - Miami FL, USA - Final results, the Swiss The seabreeze on Biscayne Bay filled in very late, a few minutes before the starting time limit, but a number of General Recalls delayed racing to an extent, that a start in time was not possible and the final heat had to be cancelled. The 2017 Bacardi Cup ranking list after 5 races is therefore final. Mark Mendelblatt/Magnus Liljedahl USA are the winners ahead of Xavier Rohart/Pierre-Alexis Ponsot FRA and George Szabo/Edoardo Natucci USA/ITA. Henrik Dannesboe/Jan Bonhoeffer SUI finished on the remarkable 21st position and Jean-Pascal Chatagny/Serge Pulfer SUI followed as 23rd.

 GC32 - Extreme Sailing Series - Act 1 - Muscat OMN - Final results, the Swiss After five days with light to moderate winds, a fresh breeze around 25 kn filled in and the sea was quite choppy on the last day of the Oman Extreme Sailing Series Act 1. Racing was spectacular and the GC32 Cats races at top speeds above 30 kn !
'SAP Racing Team' with Adam Minoprio NZL, finishing all races of the day in the top-3, defended her first place. 'Alinghi' with Arnaud Psarofaghis SUI advanced on the 2nd place overall thanks to a 2nd place in the final double-points heat. The home team of 'Oman Air' with Phil Robertson NZL follows on rank 3. Winner of the last race was Sébastien Schneiter SUI with 'Team Tilt', but 'Red Bull Sailing Team' of Roman Hagara AUT as 3rd in the last race successfully defended her 4th place overall against Schneiter and the youngsters from Lake Geneva remaining 5th.

 Finn - Garda-Trentino Cup - Torbole ITA - Day 2, the Swiss After the opening day with unconstant Northwinds, the classic Lake Garda conditions with a 20 kn Oraq breeze in the afternoon was back. Arkadij Kistanov RUS clearly defended his first place overall with the day ranks 1 and 2. Evgenji Deev RUS moved up on the 2nd place, discarding his early start disqualification from race 1. Florian Raudaschl AUT is now on the 3rd place. Among the winners of the day was also Christoph Burger SUI with the ranks 4 and 5, bringing him on the 5th interim's position overall. Thomas Gautschi SUI advanced on rank 20.

Leaders before the last races today are Jordi Xammar/Nicolas Rodriguez ESP in the 470s, Joaquin Blanco ESP and Joel Rodriguez ESP in the Lasers Standard, Marina Reino ESP ahead of Francescas Clapcich ITA in the Lasers Radial and Ivan Pastor ESP in the RS:X windsurfers. Cyrill Knecht SUI, the only Swiss in Valencia,is on rank 17 in the Lasers Standard.

 Star - Bacardi Cup - Miami FL, USA - Day 5, the Swiss Light winds around 8 kn prevailed on Biscayne Bay yesterday during the 5th race of the Starboat Bacardi Cup started again with some delay. After an exciting race with many position changes, Charlie Buckingham/Austin Sperry USA finised first ahead of John McCausland/Roger Feer USA and Xavier Rohart/ Pierre-Alexis Ponsot FRA. Leaders before the last race today are Mark Mendelblatt/Magnus Liljedahl USA 2 points ahead of Rohart/Ponsot FRA. George Szabo/Edoaro Natucci USA/ITA 5 points behind and Lars Grael/Samuel Goncalves BRA 7 with a 7 points' backlog have also still a chance to win the Cup. Henrik Dannesboe/Jan Bonhoeffer SUI advanced on rank 21 thanks to a 9th race rank. Jean-Pascal Chatagny/Serge Pulfer SUI follow at equal points on rank 23.

 GC32 - Extreme Sailing Series - Act 1 - Muscat OMN - Day 3, the Swiss Seven races were completed on the third day of the Oman Extreme Sailing Series Regatta in a moderate seabreeze with frequent overall leader changes during the day. The top teams are now very close together before the crucial final races today, with the last heat awarding double points. 'SAP Racing Team' with Adam Minoprio NZL has taken the lead just one point ahead of 'Oman Air' with Phil Robertson NZL. Only 4 points back 'Alinghi' with Arnaud Psarofaghis SUI is still a strong contender for victory. 'Red Bull' (Roman Hagara AUT) was relegated on rank 4 after a blackflag disqualification and is now much too far from winning overall. The first 'Youth' squad with Sébastien Schneiter SUI and his 'Team Tilt' is on rank 5, again with a race win yesterday.

Arkadiy Kistanov RUS won both heats and leads overall ahead of Florian Raudaschl AUT and Vladimir Krutskikh RUS at equal points on rank 2.  Olympic Classes - Semana Olimpica - Valencia ESP - Day 2, the Swiss Two days ago, the Valencia Olympic Sailing Week began with the 470s, having completed 6 races up to now.
