Olympic Classes ISAF World Championship 2011 Perth AUS the Swiss
The Swiss Sailing Team has reached its minimal objective at the 2011 Perth World Championships with five classes qualified for London 2012 and the achievement of the Swiss Olympic qualification limits by Nathalie Brugger SUI, Laser Radial, and Marazzi/De Maria SUI, Star. If the Olympic Squad 2012 will be larger than two classes, depends on the outcome of the remaining two Swiss Olympic selection events (Class World Championships 2012 and World Cup Hyères). To reach the required top-12-nations results, a major performance progress is mandatory for Brauchli/Hausser SUI, 470 men, Richard Stauffacher SUI, RS:X windsurfers, and Guillaume Girod SUI or Christoph Bottoni SUI, Lasers. The conditions in Perth with partly fresh, but also light and shifty winds - similar to the Olympic waters of Weymouth 2012 - were not easy, even for the top Swiss teams, who never had a chance to be among the top competitors to qualify at least for the Medal Race. Nathalie Brugger had a bad start but improved considerably towards the end of the Championship getting the Swiss Olympic limit at the last moment. Marazzi/De Maria SUI have still difficulties to stay with the top ten in breezy conditions. All results and the Communiqué of the SST.
