420 + 470 Swiss Championship 2016 Thunersee YC Start today
The joint 420/470 Swiss Championship begins today on Lake Thoune.
Favorites among the 23 470 teams are the Olympians Linda Fahrni/Maja Siegenthaler TYC, sailing the first regatta after the Olympics on their home waters. Main challengers will be the development teams Philippe Erni/Stephan Zurfluh SCC, David Biedermann/Max Haenssler BT or Kilian Wagen/Anne-Sophie Thilo CNP. The veteran, 1984 IYRU (now WS) Youth Sailing World Champion Stefan Seger RCO, together with Matthias Fahrni RCO, will probably also have a say.
27 teams will start in the 420s with Maxime Bachelin/Arno de Planta CVV as key favorites. Considered first challengers are Morgan Lauber/Léo Tetaz CNM and Nick Zeltner/Till Seger RCO. The overcast sky until next Saturday will inhibit the Lake Thoune thermal breeze. A Southwind ('Foehn') has been forecast for today, and a westerly front is expected for the rest of the week.
