Five classes terminated their qualification series of the Miami Worldcup yesterday in light winds, and today, the first Medal Races are on the program.
In some classes, the final winners are already known. The leader in the RS:X men windsurfers Louis Giard FRA has a 37 points' advantage on Pierre Le Coq FRA. Another 7 points back is Mateo Sanz-Lanz SUI on rank 3. In the Lasers Standard, Jean-Baptiste Bernaz FRA is 31 points ahead of the chasers. Pavlos Kontides CYP and Philipp Buhl GER 2 points back will be fighting for Silver and Bronze today. In the 49ers, Dylan Fletcher/Stuart Bithell GBR are the premature winners with a 21 points' lead over Bildstein/Hussl AUT, who will have to defend Silver against Sylvan/Anjemark SWE one point behind.
In all other classes, the final decisions are still open. Good chances have Martine Grael/Kahena Kunze BRA with a 17 points' advantage on Ragna and Maja Agerup NOR in the 49ersFX. On a safe way to victory is also Jorge Zarif BRA in the Finns 12 points ahead of Ben Cornish GBR. 16 points is the lead of Vasileia Karachaliou GRE in the Lasers Radial. Evi Van Acker BEL and Mathilde de Kerangat FRA 4 points behind will duel for Silver and Bronze. Last but not least, Yunxiu Lu CHN 14 points ahead will most probably celebrate her first Worldcup win. Marina Alabau ESP on rank 2 has an 11 points' advantage on Isobel Hamilton GBR.
The other classes, sailing their last fleet races today, are more disputed. Stuart McNay/David Hughes USA lead in the 470 men 4 points in front of Mantis/Kagialis GRE and even Isozaki/Takanayagi JPN 9 points behind on rank 3 have some chances for the overall victory. Only two points is the lead of Afrodite Zegers/Anneloes Van Veen NED in the 470 women on Weguelin/McIntyre GBR. In the Nacra 17, Ben Saxton/Nicola Grove BR are 9 points ahead of Tom Phipps/Nicola Boniface GBR. Nico Delle-Karth/Laura Schöfegger AUT, newcomers to the class, are ready to grasp the Bronze Medal in their first Worldcup event.
All results and the daily news.
The Medal Races will be aired livestream on the Internet beginning on 17h UTC today and can be followed on our Internet platform.
