Yesterday, the first major Olympic Classes regatta in Europe was kicked-off on Palma Bay in light winds. With 1'156 participants from 60 nations, the attendance is an absolute record at Trofeo Princesa Sofia ! Except the Lasers with one race only, all classes sailed the program according to schedule.
In the 470 men, Naoki Ichino/Takashi Hasegawa JPN have taken the lead ahead of Peponnet/Mion FRA and Patience/Grube GBR. In the 470 women, Linda Fahrni/Maja Siegenthaler SUI are on rank 1 followed by Böhm/Goliass GER and Kondo/Yoshioka JPN at equal points on rank 2.
With two bullets, the Olympic Champion 2008 Jonas Warrer DEN with his new crew Jakob Precht DEN had a successful comeback after a 2-year-pause. Two race wins also Annemiek Bekkering/Anette Duetz NED in the 49erFX.
In the Finns, Alejandro Muscat ESP stays on top ahead of Giles Scott GBR and Facundo Olezza ARG. Here the report of the Finn class. Ruggero Tita/Caterina Banti ITA are on first in the Nacra-17-catamarans one point ahead of the Olympic Champions Santiago Lange/Cecilia Carranza ARG.
In the RS:X men windsurfers, Bing Ye CHN, Yoav Cohen ISR and Makoto Tomizawa JPN won the only race of their Groups each. Peina Chen CHN and Byrony Shaw GBR lead in the RS:X women.
