29er, 420, Laser Radial, Nacra 15, RS:X-Windurfer - Youth World Championship 2017 - Sanya CHN - Day 3

 29er, 420, Laser Radial, Nacra 15, RS:X-Windurfer - Youth World Championship 2017 - Sanya CHN - Day 3 Racing of day three of the Youth Sailing World Championship on the Chinese Holiday Island Sanya is on this morning UTC with the Boys starting the Wednesday program.
In the 420s, the two races have been completed with Otto Henry/Rome Featherstone USA remaining on top inspite of a mediocre 15th place. Ido Bilik/Noam Omri ISR reduced the gap on rank 1 to 4 points thanks to a race win.
The 29ers finished two races up to now. With the ranks 1 and 7, Rok Verderber/Klemen Semelbauer SLO are the new leaders ahead of Ville Korhonen/Robin Berner FIN 6 points back.
The Laser-Radial-Boys finished their first race of the day and with a 4th race rank, Daniil Krutskikh RUS has taken the overall lead, replacing Guido Gallinaro ITA who is now 2nd with a 5 points' backlog. The Radial Girls have sailed their first heat as well. Charlotte Rose USA defended her first place but the defending Champion Dolores Moreira URU reduced her backlog to one point thanks to winning the race. Luciana Cardozo ARG on the 3rd place is already 18 points behind.
In the RS:X Boys windsurfers, Yoav Cohen is up on top with a race win. Hao Chen CHN follows at equal points on rank 2. In the RS:X Girls, Giorgia Speciale ITA stays on top 3 points ahead of Emma Wilson GBR.
The 420 and 29ers Girls will sail their races in the afternoon. Carmen and Emma Cowles USA lead in the 420s after 4 races. In the 29er Girls, Margherita Porro/Sofia Leoni ITA are first.
In the Nacra 15, Lucas Claeyssens/Anne Vandenberghe BEL are 4 points ahead of Shannon Dalton/Jayden Dalton AUS. Max Wallenberg/Amanda Björk SUI on 3rd are another point back.

Melges 20, J/70 - Sportboat Winter Series, Act 3 - Monaco MON - Final Results

 Melges 20, J/70 - Sportboat Winter Series, Act 3 - Monaco MON - Final Results Over the past weekend, the third Act of the Monaco Sportboat Winter Series was held, and in moderate winds, two races were completed.
Valeria Kovalenko RUS finished again first in the J/70s with the ranks 1 and 3 and extended her overall lead in the Winter-Series-rankings. Stefano Roberti ITA was 2nd ahead of the tied Jacques Leveque SUI.
The Melges 20 race looked like the Russian Championship with 8 RUS-boats among the 12 participants. Dmitri Samokhin RUS won the regatta ahead of Luca Fassitelli ITA.

The leading trio with 'Dongfeng' (Charles Caudrelier FRA) still on first has meanwhile reached the Roaring Forties. 'Mapfre' (Javi Fernandez ESP) 8nm behind keeps rank 2.

 Solo Around the World Record - François Gabart FRA - Day 39 Another fast day in the northern trade winds with 690nm in 24hrs and François Gabart with his Maxi-Trimaran is already approaching the Acores that he will bypass West. The westerly winds will most probably drive him back home, 1'929nm away this morning UTC by Friday evening. His advantage on the record has grown to 2'567nm, roughly 5 days.

 Solo Around the World Record from East to West - Yves Le Blevec FRA - Day 19 Yves Le Blevec FRA is close to Cape Horn and early tomorrow UTC, the Trimaran 'Actual' will round this first waypoint of his record attempt to round the Globe in the 'wrong direction' from East to West. For several days already, Le Blevec has been forced to sail upwind, a first getting familiar with the conditions he will meet during the coming rough weeks.

 29er, 420, Laser Radial, Nacra 15, RS:X-Windsurfer World Sailing Youth World Championship 2017 - Sanya CHN - Day 2 The 2017 Youth Sailing World Championship began yesterday in an 8-12kn wind, and we reported on the first results already yesterday morning UTC. The days' racing in China is normally completed around 10 a.m. UTC. This morning, the first results of day two are already available, with the Girls sailing first.
In the 420, Carmen and Emma Cowles USA took the overall lead with the ranks 1 and 2, and the disqualification of race 1 yesterday discarded. Hatty Morsley/Pippa Cropley GBR follow 12 points behind, tied with Maria-Clara Vignati/Emiliana Lopez ARG, on the ranks 2 and 3.
In the 29er Girls, Margherita Porro/Sofia Leoni ITA are on top 7 points ahead of Zoya Novikova/Diana Sabirova RUS and Emilie Andersen/Maren Edland NOR on the ranks 2 and 3.
The Nacra 15 catamarans completed their 3 races of today as well and Lucas Claeyssens BEl (age 13) together with his crew Anne Vandenberghe BEL defended his first place. Shannon Dalton/Jayden Dalton AUS follow 4 points behind on rank 3. 3rd are Max Wallenberg/Amanda Björk SUI, with a race win today, 5 points behind the leader and also a clear contender on the title.
The RS:X Windsurfers completed 2 of the 3 races of the day. In the Girls, Giorgia Speciale ITA and Ting Yu CHN share the lead at equal points, in the Boys, Yoav Cohen ISR and Hao Chen CHN have the same number of points on rank 1.
The 420 and 29er Boys as well as the two Laser fleets are sailing their day's program in the coming hours.

'Dongfeng' with Charles Caudrelier FRA has taken the lead ahead of 'Mapfre' (Javi Fernandez ESP) 1,8nm behind on rank 2. The fast ride will continue for several days.

 Solo Around the World Record - François Gabart FRA - Day 38 Driven by the northern trade winds, François Gabart FRA covered 729nm in the past 24hrs yesterday, and the fast ride will continue at least to the Acores where it will become evident, whether the highway will go on to the finish line 2'400nm away this morning UTC. Should he keep the pace, he will have a grip at the absolute round-the-world record - the Trophée Jules Verne - as well. His advantage on the solo record is alread over 5 days.

 18-Footer - New South Wales Championship 2017 - Sydney AUS - Race 3 Last Sunday, race 3 of the NSW-Championship was held on Sydney Harbour in fresh winds around 16kn, making the race very animated with numerous incidents. At the end of the race, it was 'Asko Appliances' of James Dorron AUS who had the upper hand 20sec ahead of 'Finport Trade Finance' of Keagan York AUS. 'Smeg', winner of the first two races, was down on rank 7 after a penalty circle and a capsize, but she remains on rank 1 overall.

 29er, 420, Laser Radial, Nacra 15, RS:X-Windsurfer - World Sailing Youth World Championship 2017 - Sanya CHN This morning UTC, the Youth Sailing World Championship 2017 began on the Chinese Holiday Island Sanya with 367 participants from 60 nations ! Here already the first results.
With the ranks 1 and 2, Ido Bilik/Noam Homri ISR had an ideal start in the 420 Boys, leading ahead of Otto Henry/Roam Featherstone AUS and Thomas Rice/Trevor Bornarth USA on the ranks 2 and 3.
The 29er-Boys completed already 3 heats and Mathias Berthet/Alexander Franks NOR are on top ahead of Kasper Nordenram/Linus Berglund SWE. Théo Revil/Gautier Guevel FRA follow as 3rd.
The Nacra 15 had one race at Press deadline this morning UTC with Lucas Claeyssens/Anne Vandenberghe BEL as winners ahead of Max Wallenberg/Amanda Björk SUI.
In the Laser Radial Boys, Giacomo Giovanelli ITA has taken the lead ahead of Caelin Winchcombe AUS and Junroi Lu SGP. In the Radial Girls, Charlotte Rose USA won both races of the day. Dolores Moreira URU and Annabelle Renie NZL are the first persuers.

 VOR65 - Ocean Race 2017/18 - Cape Town RSA - Leg 3 - Day 1 The start to the 6'000nm leg 3 of the Ocean Race from Cape Town RSA to Melbourne AUS was given yesterday by noon in a 25kn wind. After a short triangle off Cape Town, the fleet headed South. This morning UTC, the seven boats were still closely together with 'Brunel' (Bouwe Bekking NED) leading only 5nm ahead of 'Vestas' (Charlie Enright USA) on the last place sailing now on the 38th parallel in an unusual Eastwind. Down on latitude 40, the fresh Westwind on the highway of the South is waiting.

 420, 470 - Winter Regatta - Imperia ITA - Final results No more racing yesterday, final day of the Imperia Winter Regatta, at the Ligurian coast.
Winning 3 of the 4 races, Kevin Peponnet/Jérémy Mion FRA were the clear first in the 470 men ahead of Frederik Fock/Marcus Dackhammar SWE and Malte Winkel/Matti Cipra GER. 28 teams sailing. Same result for Benedetta Di Salle/Alessandra Dubbini ITA - 3 bullets in 4 races - in the 470 women. Afrodite Zegers/Anneloes Van Veen NED and Fabienne Oster/Anastasiya Winkel GER completed the podium among the 16 teams.
The 420, having started the event one day later, finished only 2 races. In the Boys, Francesco Crichiutti Francesco/Francesco Ripandelli ITA clearly won the regatta 10 points ahead of Henning Kroplin/Jonas Porthun GER and Alessandro Caldari/Federico Caldari ITA at equal points on the ranks 2 and 3. Participating were 67 teams. In the 420 Girls, Julia Miñana/Silvia Sebastiá ESP were first followed by Solenza Mariani/Clara Olive FRA and Sofia Attili/Emma Crugnola ITA. 34 teams on the result list.

 Optimist, Laser - St.Nicholas Regatta - Pula CRO - Final results The St-Nicholas-Regatta in Pula was concluded yesterday with four races per fleet.
In the small Laser Standard fleet, Alec Cvinar CRO finished first ahead of Zeno Fry SUI. In the Lasers Radial, Stipe Gaspic CRO was first with 3 race wins ahead of Roko Gopic CRO and Sandra Lulic CRO, the best-ranked woman among the 44 participants. In the Lasers 4.7, Leon Kljus CRO was on top ahead of Marijan Mavar CRO and Niccolo Nordera ITA. The 66 participants.
In the Optimists, Buba Pulek CRO was first ahead of Luka Zabukovec SLO at equal points. On rank 3 followed Alfredo Salerno ITA. 364 starters.

 Solo Around the World record - François Gabart FRA - Day 36 Luck with the weather situation for François Gabart FRA with his Maxi Trimaran as leaving the well-established southern trade winds, he crossed the Equator and the innertropical convergence with almost no speed loss yesterday with 630nm in 24h and an average speed of 26,3kn ! With 35 day and 1 hour, he established a new solo record at the Equator, only 20 hours more as the record for teams established by Francis Joyon FRA ! The fast ride should persist during the coming 2 days and it remains to be seen, whether he can connect to the Westwind zone around the Acores without slowdown.

 Optimist, 420, Laser, Snipe - Trofeo Ciutat de Palma - Palma ESP - Final results An approaching storm depression inhibited sailing on the final day of the Trofeo Ciutat de Palma. Therefore, the previous year's winner Malthe Ebtrup DEN defended his title in the Optimists succsessfully. Maxime Thommen SUI finished 2nd 2 points behind. On rank 3 followed Pau Mesquida ESP. The best girl Maria Perello ESP followed on rank 4. 261 Optimists participated.
The other classes were all-Spanish.

 Solo Around the World record from East to West - Yves Le Blevec FRA - Day 17 Two days before rounding Cape Horn, where the real test of the world rounding in the wrong direction will begin for Yves Le Blevec FRA and his Maxim-Trimaran, the main sheet broke yesterday, but the Frenchman succeeded to repair the rope within 3 hours. Inspite of only 297nm sailed - he is currently fighting with strong head winds of a depression swirl off the Argentinian coast - he extended the lead on the record on 2'412nm.

 Star - Star Sailors League - Finals - Nassau BAH - Victory for Paul Goodison GBR/Frithjof Kleen GER The 2017 Star Sailors League Final was sailed yesterday in a 16 to 18kn wind in Bahamas. Eliminated in the Quarter Final were Bruni/Colannino ITA, Negri/Lambertenghi ITA and Saxton/Mitchell GBR. In the Semi Final, Cayard/Trinter USA, Kusznierewicz/Zycki POL and Buhl/Koy GER were forced to leave the competition. In a nail-biting finish, Paul Goodison GBR/Frithjof Kleen GER defeated Robert Scheidt/Henry Boening BRA with the last wave on the finish line. Not far behind followed last year's winners Mark Mendelblatt/Brian Fatih USA. Xavier Rohart/Pierre-Alexis Ponsot FRA finished on rank 4.

 420, 470 - Winter Regatta - Imperia ITA - Day 2 Sun and good conditions prevailed and two races were sailed in a 15kn wind on the second day of the Imperia Winter Regatta. The 420 completed one race.
Kevin Peponnet/Jérémy Mion FRA won both heats in the 470 Men and extended his lead on 6 points. New on rank 2 are Fock/Dackammer SWE and Winkel/Cipra GER are on 3rd. David Biedermann/Jann Schüpbach SUI dropped on rank 13. In the 470 Women, Benedetta Di Salle/Alessandra Dubbini ITA moved on top with two race wins. Afrodite Zegers/Annaloes Van Veen NED and Fabienne Oester/Anastasyia Winkel GER follow on the ranks 2 and 3.
The 420 Girls' ranking list can unfortunately hardly been read. Simona Hegi/Saskia Böhler SUI finished 5th in the only race of the day. In the 420 Boys, Spagnioli/Rio ITA are in the lead .... but here too, the ranking list in facebook-photo-qualitiy can hardly be deciphered.

 Optimist, 420, Laser, Snipe - Trofeo Ciutat de Palma - Palma ESP - Day 2 The full program was sailed on Palma Bay yesterday with two races sailed by the large Optimist fleet split in 6 Groups, and two races for all other classes.
With the day ranks 1 and 3, last year's winner Malthe Ebtrup DEN leads in the Optimists. With the day ranks 6 and 1, Maxime Thommen SUI advanced on rank 2 in his Group at equal points with Pau Mesquida ESP. The Optimist World Champion Maria Perello ESP on 4th is the best girl.

470s, Lasers and a large 380 boats Optimist fleet have been sailing three races in Pula since Friday. In the Optimists, Luka Zabukovec SLO and Fras Marins SLO lead overall at equal points. Philipp Roth SUI is on a good 12th place, Luis Zimmerli SUI follows on rank 26. The ranking lists of the other classes have not yet been posted.

 Star - Star Sailors League 2017 - Finals - Nassau BAH - Day 4 The Qualification Phase at the Star Sailors' League Final in Nassau BAH was concluded yesterday with 3 races and the best 10 teams will continue the competition in the Quarter Finals. The dominant winner after 11 races sailed - Mark Mendelblatt/Brian Fatih USA - are already qualified for the Final of the 4 best. Robert Scheidt/Henry Boening BRA on rank 2 will go directly to the Semi Final. The ranks 3 to 10 will sail the one-race Quarter Final with the best five qualifying for the Semi Final. Three invited VIP helmsmen (non Starboat sailors) will sail in the next Round today: the 2008 Laser Olympic Champions Paul Goodison GBR, the current Laser World Ranking leader Philipp Buhl GER and the Nacra-17 World Champion Ben Saxton GBR.

 The first races of the 420/470 Imperia Winter Regatta were sailed yesterday in a fresh 20kn wind. After two races in each fleet, favorites finished the day on top of the rankings.
In the 470 Men, Kevin Peponnet/Jérémy Mion FRA took the lead with the ranks 1 and 3. Deniz Cinar/Ates Cinar TUR followed on rank 2 with a 5 points' backlog. Jordi Xammar/Nicholas Rodriguez ESP were 3rd. The 470 Men ranking list.
Shared is the lead in the 470 Women with Afrodite Zegers/Anneloes Van Veen NED and Benedetta Di Salle/Alessandra Dubbini ITA both with the ranks 1 and 2. Fabienne Oster/Anastasyia Winkel GER are on the 3rd rank. The 470 Women ranking list.

With the ranks 2/1/1, the Optimist World Champion Maria Perello ESP is clearly on top ahead of Pau Mesquida ESP and Malthe Ebtruph DEN on the ranks 2 and 3. 277 participants.

 Solo Around the World Record - François Gabart FRA - Day 35 Yesterday, François Gabart FRA reached the southern trade winds bringing him at good speed to the Equator, where the innertropical convergence zone will slow down his race for the record. But inspite of the not to big Etmal of 564nm, the advantage on the record grew on 1'817nm.

 VOR65 - Ocean Race 2017/18 - Cape Town RSA - InPort Race The Race goes on with the start to leg 3 tomorrow in Cape Town RSA. As usual, the tune-up was the InPort Race, held in a fresh 20kn wind off Cape Town. 'Dongfeng' with Charles Caudrelier FRA took the lead in the second upwind and distanced the other 6 boats fiercly fighting for the remaining positions. Coming from behind, 'Mapfre' (Javi Fernandez ESP) finished on rank 2 and defended the interim's lead in the InPort rankings.

 Solo Around the World Record from East to West - Yves Le Blevec FRA - Day 16 Along the Brazilian Coast, Yves Le Belevec FRA had to cross a series of low pressure zones forcing him to loose headway. With 360nm in 24hrs, his progress was rather modest, and he is now already sailing upwind, conditions he will meet during the entire course across the Southern Oceans. Not for nothing, the round-the-world west is known as "in the wrong direction".
