Laser Radial - Youth World Championship 2017 - Medemblik NED - Final results

Fresh winds prevailed also on the final day of the Laser Radial Youth World Championship on the Ijssell-Meer during the last two races. With the second dirscard activated, the rankings change considerably.
Gold in the Boys went to Dimitris Papadimitriou GRE with rank 1 and 2 yesterday and a 27 points advantage overall with the second discard. Matias Dietrich ARG defended rank 2 by a small margin on Nicholas Bezy HKG new on the 3rd place. Josh Armit NZL with the same number of points had to content himself with rank 4, but he earned Gold in the U17-classification. Zac Littlewood AUS and Nico Naujock GER completed the U17 podium.
Gold for Hannah Anderssohn GER in the Girls' rankings 2 points ahead of Dolores Moreira Fraschini URU and Charlotte Rose USA, best of the day with the ranks 1 and 2, up on rank 3.

Drachen - European Championship 2017 - Thun SUI - Day 4

Another day with only a light thermal breeze during a short moment, and only one race could be held. Stephan Link GER (with Frank Butzmann GER) was the winner advancing on rank 3 overall. Markus Brennecke GER (with Jochen Schümann GER) remains on top but Pedro Andrade POR reduced the gap on one point.

The Swiss Round of the 2017 Euromasters began yesterday on Lake Geneva in light winds and all fleets completed one race in a 5 kn breeze.
In the Lasers Standard (16 participants/3 nations), Wolfgang Gerz GER was first ahead of Yan Perret SUI and Reinhard Noack GER, the best in the Radials (10 participants/4 nations) was Marco Casalini GER. Ute Noack GER and Corinne Lavalle FRA follow on the ranks 2 and 3. The best Swiss Jacquers Perret SUI was on rank 4.

 Laser Radial - Youth World Championship 2017 - Medemblik NED - Day 5 Weather change in the Netherlands for the Final Series races with rain and a fresher 12 - 15 kn wind causing a number of changes in the overall rankings.
Guido Galinaro ITA, the solid leader in the Boys fleet so far finished 34th and 31st and descended on rank 3. Matias Dietrich ARG is now on top but the day's best (5/1) Yoshihiro Suzuki JPN is only one point behind. At equal points with Galinaro ITA follow Josh Armit NZL and Dimitris Papadimitriou GRE on the ranks 4 and 5.
First in the Girls is now Hannah Anderssohn GER 3 points ahead of Dolores Moreira-Fraschini URU. Julia Büsselberg GER descended on rank 3. With the ranks 1 and 2, Charlotte Rose USA moved up on rank 4.

 A-Cat - Polish National Championship 2017 - Sopot POL - Final results The Polish A-Cat Championship in Sopot POL ended yesterday with two races sailed in moderate winds. On Monday, the World Championship will begin at the same venue.
The domination of the Polish cracks during the first two days ended yesterday as Manuel Calavia ESP won both heats and earned Gold ahead fo Jakub Surowiec POL Silver and Tymoteusz Bendyk POL Bronze.

The World Championship begins on Monday and additional top sailors will join the competition such as the America's Cup winner and 8-fold A-Cat World Champion Glen Ashby AUS.

 Drachen - European Championship 2017 - Thun SUI - Day 3 The difficult weather pattern over Switzerland remained also on day 3 of the Dragon European Championship. This time, the morning wind from the Alps was missing, and in the afternoon, the thermal breeze filled in light only and late, allowing to sail just one race.
Markus Brennecke GER (with Jochen Schümann GER) were the winners taking the overall lead after two races. Anatoly Loginov RUS advanced on rank 2. Pedro Andrade POR, winner of the first race, is now 3rd.

 Windsurfing - Slalom Swiss Championship 2017 - Silvaplana SUI - Day 1 After two days waiting for sufficient winds, a well-established Maloja wind provided for good sailing conditions on Lake Silvaplana and two runs were completed at the Slalom Swiss Championship. The favorite Sebastian Kördel GER and Jordy Vonk NED have jointly taken the lead with the ranks 1 and 2 each. On rank 3 follows Alexandre Cousin FRA. The best Swiss Richard Stauffacher SUI is on rank 4. First in the women is Karin Jaggi SUI.

 Laser Radial - Youth World Championship 2017 - Medemblik NED - Day 4 The Qualification Series at the Laser Radial Worlds on the Ijsselmeer were concluded yesterday with three races per fleet sailed in sun an moderate winds from 8 to 12 kn.
Guido Gallinaro ITA keeps on dominating the men's fleet winning 6 of the 7 races sailed so far in his Group and his advantage on Matias Dietrich ARG is now 16 points. Only one point further behind follows Grégoire Peverelli SUI (ranks 1/2 yesterday).
In the women's fleet, Julia Büsselberg GER is on top one point ahead of Hannah Anderssohn GER. The Olympian Dolores Moreira URU follows on rank 3 with a 4 points' backlog.

 A-Cat - Polish National Championship 2017 - Sopot POL - Day 2 Only one race could be sailed yesterday in light winds and Tymoteusz Cierzan POL was the winner moving up on rank 7 overall. Jakub Surowiec POL stayed on rank 1 ahead of Jacek Noetzel POL new on rank 2. Bob Baier GER finished 2nd yesterday and advanced on the 4th place as best non Polish. The defending World Champion Mischa Heemskerk NED follows on rank 6.

 Dragon - European Championship 2017 - Thun SUI - Day 2 The Lake Thoune afternoon thermal breeze did not fill in yesterday as well and only one race could be completed in a moderate down-valley wind in the morning. Going on the right side in the first upwind decided the race in favour of Pedro Andrade POR and his team. Markus Brennecke GER (with Jochen Schümann GER) followed on rank 2. Igor Goikhberg RUS finished 3rd. The best Swiss was Garlef Baum SUI on his local waters on rank 8.

 Victor Kovalenko UKR/AUS - Mr. Medal Maker - the Biography Victor Kovalenko became famous as the Ukrainian 470 coach. He left his country to become coach of the Swiss 470s in the years 1995/96 before he went to Australia as Coach and Director of the most successful Australian Sailing Team. His athletes earned in total 10 Olympic Medals and 17 World Champions' titles. Now, his biography has been published telling about his almost 40 years of professional coaching and unveiling his philosophy. Very interesting to read this book !

After four completed races, the leader in the Boys is Guido Gallinaro ITA. Grégoire Peverelli SUI is on the excellent 4th place. In the Girls, Julia Büsselberg GER and Kim Pletikos SLO share the lead.

 A-Cat - Polish National Championship 2017 - Sopot POL - Day 1 Yesterday began the Polish A-Cat Championship in Sopot POL, the tune-up race for the A-Cat World Championship 2017 beginning on the coming weekend. A high-class fleet is therefore racing already now in this high-tech Class that has made big development steps with the foiling technology in the last years.
Two races were held yesterday and the local helmsmen dominted, as they did during the past months already. Jakup Surowiec POL leads ahead of Maciek Zarnowski POL and Jacek Noetzel POL. Manuel Calavia ESP, Steve Brewin AUS (with a race win) and Darren Bundock AUS follow on the ranks 4 to 6.

A-Cat - Polish Championship - Sopot POL - Day 1 - Luc Dubois SUI is back

 A-Cat - Polish Championship - Sopot POL - Day 1 - Luc Dubois SUI is back Switzerland is represented with 11 participants at the forthcoming high-class A-Cat World Championship with 144 A-Cats on the entry list. After some years' absence, Luc Dubois SUI (age 55) is back in the racing scene and started well to the Polish Championship as 11th after the first day.
The former Optimist, Laser and 470 Swiss Champion and 1984 Olympian, he has been with the avantgard of technology developments in sailing for over 30 years. In the 80ies of last century, he invented the 3D-technology for sails, laminating the sails of his 470 in the cellar of his parents' home. He was immediately hired by North USA where he organised the production process for 3D sails. As 'Speedmaster', he was responsible at 'Alinghi' for the boat performance. As a member of the 'Team New Zealand' Tech Crew, he was involved in the development of the foiling/flying AC-catamaran for San Francisco. In the past four years, he was engaged by the 'BAR Team' of Ben Ainslie GBR.
His performance in the comeback on the A-Cat will be followed with interest.

 VOR65 - Volvo Ocean Race 2017/18 - Leg 0, Stage 4 - Day 4 Very light winds affected the final leg - 'Leg 0' of the forthcoming Volvo Ocean Race, a test and training week under race conditions for the seven teams. Shortly after the passage of Cape Finisterre at the Northwest point of Spain, the race was abandoned with 'Vestas' of Charlie Enright USA on first closely followed by 'AkzoNobel' of Simeon Tienpont NED. The overall leader 'Mapfre' with Javi Fernandez ESP followed on rank 3 and finished as winner of 'Leg 0'.

 Surprise - Swiss Championship 2017 - RV Brunnen - Final results Perfect thermal breeze conditions prevailed on the last day of the Surprise Swiss Championship on Lake Uri. Two races were held and the ranks 5 and 2 were good enough for Eric Monnin YCI and his family team to add another Surprise Champion's title to his palmares.  Dragon - European Championship 2017 - Thun SUI - Day 1 Very light and circling winds before an upcoming thunderstorm front did not allow to race yesterday at the Dragon European Championship on Lake Thoune and the 67 teams from 14 nations were back in the harbour without results by the end of the afternoon.  Windsurfing - Formula Swiss Championship 2017 - Silvaplana SUI - Day 1 Good Maloja-Wind conditions with up to 22 kn prevailed yesterday on Lake Silvaplana during the first three races of the Formula Swiss Championship. All three heats were won by Wojtek Brozowski POL ahed of Alexandre Cousin FRA and Richard Stauffacher SUI.  Laser Radial - Youth World Championship 2017 - Medemblik NED - Day 2 Sun and moderate winds around 10 kn prevailed again on day two of the Laser Radial Youth Worlds on the Ijsselmeer and the fleets held two races each.
Guido Gallinaro ITA won both heats of his Group in the Boys' fleet taking the overall lead. Matias Dietrich ARG and Caelin Winchcombe AUS follow tied 4 points behind on the ranks 2 and 3. As 2nd-best of the day (ranks 2/1), Grégoire Peverelli SUI moved up on rank 4 at equal points with Maor Ben Harosh ISR. First in the U17-rankings is Josh Armit NZL 4 points ahead of Gauthier Verhulst SUI on the 2nd place.
In the Girls, the new leader is Julia Büsselberg GER with the day ranks 1 and 2 at equal points with Kim Pletikos SLO. Matilda Nicholls GBR follows 3 points back on rank 3 and leads in the U17-rankings.

 VOR65 - Volvo Ocean Race 2017/18 - Leg 0, Stage 4 - Day 2 On Sunday, the start to the fourth part of the Volvo Ocean Race 'Leg 0' was given for the 7 teams leading from St-Malo FRA to Lisboa POR over 700 nm. Because of the light winds and the strong currents, race management decided to split the leg in two. The initial 25-miles' sprint was again won by 'Mapfre' with Javi Fernandez ESP. Yesterday, the start was given to the second part in the sequence and times of the Sunday arrivals.  Dragon - European Championship 2017 - Thun SUI - first races today The first race of the Dragon European Championship will be started at 13 hrs UTC on Lake Thoune SUI. After the rainy Swiss Championship during the past week, sunny days have been forecast and the legendary thermal breeze shall hopefully be part of the competition.
64 teams from 11 nations are on the entry list. In addition to Dimitri Samokhin RUS, dominator of the Swiss Championship last week, the other Russian teams, some elite German teams as well as sailing under the UAE flag the former 470 Olympic Champion Jewgenij Braslavets UKR and Henrik Witzmann GER are the favorites for the podium. Among the prominent names present is also Jochen Schümann GER, ex-Alinghi and threefold Olympic Medalist.

 8mJI - World Championship 2017 - Hanko NOR - Day 1 The 8mIJ World Championship began yesterday in Hankö NOR in moderate winds with 28 teams from 9 nations and 3 continents. Two races were completed and the first leader is Werner Deuring AUT with the ranks 1 and 2. Avia Willment GBR and Lars Ingeberg NOR are the first challengers.  Surprise - Swiss Championship 2017 - RV Brunnen - Day 2 Top thermal breeze conditions prevailed also on the second day of the Surprise Swiss Championship on Lake Uri allowing to complete three more races. Unfortunately, there is now updated ranking list on the event website. Fortunately enough, the leading Eric Monnin SUI (thanks Eric) took a photo snapshot of the first part of the ranking list with 12 of the 29 teams racing.
Eric Monnin YCI extended his lead on 8 points. New on rank 2 is Emanuel Müller YCB and his team, just one point ahead of Guillaume Girod SNG.

 Beach-Catamaran - difficult days for Yvan Bourgnon SUI in the Nordwest-Passage The Swiss adventurer Yvan Bourgnon SUI with his beach catamaran has now the major part of the North-West Passage behind him, but the hardest part is still ahead and he suffers as never before in his long career of oceanic and adventure races.  Musto-Skiff, Tempest - Regatta-Weekend - SC Sihlsee Both classes sailed six races on Lake Sihl each in a well-established thermal breeze.
Pierre-Yves Pfirter CNM succeeded to defeat the year-long dominator of the Class Roger Oswald SCE in the Musto-Skiffs. Alexander Greil YCH finished 3rd in the 14 boats' fleet.
In the Tempests, Cornelia and Ruedi Christen TYC were the winners ahead of Maria Suter/Andreas Hochuli SCH and Rolf and Urs Hunkeler RVB.
