IMOCA Open 60 - Vendée Globe - Les Sables d'Olonne FRA - Day 2, Alan Roura
Tuesday, November 10, 2020
During the last night, the hero of the first 40 hours, the Paralympic Champion Damien Séguin FRA (here his video report of day one) passed the Cape Finisterre at the most northwestern point of Spain as first. While the favored foilers were forced to follow a longer more northerly course to remain up to speed in the very light southwesterly breeze over the Bay of Biscay, the old-generation Open 60s took the direct route bringing them on top of the leader board. This morning UTC however, the wind was slackening and the boats closed up, but a frontal system over the Iberic peninsula from the West has been announced for this evening, and the fleet will, without doubt, be reshuffled. ----- With Jéremy Beyou FRA ('Charal') and Nicolas Troussel FRA ('Corum'), two foilers have now for the first time taken the lead this morning. In the 3rd position with a 6nm backlog followed Jean Le Cam FRA as the first non-foiler. Some favorites are already behind: Samantha Davies ('Initiatives Coeur') was 10th 21nm back, Alex Thomson GBR ('Hugo Boss') 13th with a 30nm deficit. ----- Alan Roura SUI progressed rather cautiously, occupying rank 28 with a 66nm gap to the leader. ----- Tomorrow morning, the leader board will definitely look differently. ----- The race tracker and the reports.
