Yesterday evening at 19h UTC, the leading Alex Thompson GBR crossed the Equator on his 'Hugo Boss' in the record time of 9 days and 7 hours, one day faster than the previous record. And also the next five boats, lead by Armel Le Cléac'h FRA (Banque Populaire'), were below the previous record time. Thompson GBR took advantage from the freshening southern trade winds and was 60 miles ahead of Le Cléac'h FRA this morning. Another 8 miles behind followed Vincent Riou FRA ('PRB'). Tanguy De la Motte FRA, trying to repair the damaged mast top on the Cape Verdes, failed and was forced to abandon the race, the first one to retire. He is now on his way back to the Sables d'Olonne.
