Sunday, December 29, 2024
In the South Atlantic, the leading duo - Yoann Richomme FRA was 50 miles ahead of Charlie Dalin FRA this morning - is cruising in northerly winds in search of the trade winds. Sébastien Simon FRA, on the other hand, is sailing in 3rd place in southerly winds on his ‘healthy bow’ with foil and was able to reduce the gap to 590 miles. The large chasing group that rounded Cape Horn yesterday, on the other hand, is in the calm and should continue regroup close. Boris Herrmann GER is 7th, 1705 miles behind, Justine Mettraux SUI follows in 10th place, 1757 miles behind. Yannick Bestaven FRA dropped out of the group after damaging his rudder. Jean Le Cam FRA, 17th and best classified non-foiler, was able to break away from the group with Alan Roura SUI. The Swiss is sailing 19th alongside Isabelle Joschke FRA. Oliver Heer SUI in 31st place survived the stormiest night of his race so far with more than 50 knots of wind and should reach Cape Horn in 12 days. ----- The race tracker and the reports.
