In 1969, Robin Knox-Johnson GBR won 'The Golden Globe', the first solo non-stop round-the-world race, when the leading Bernard Montessier FRA for unknown reasons decided to turn shortly before the finish line to attempt another round. Knox-Johnson is still a most respected person in the British sail racing scene today. A 57-minute video portrait.

The Whitbread Round the World Race 1993/94 was won by 'Endeavour' of Grant Dalton NZL 9 hours ahead of 'Yamaha' with Ross Field NZL. Pierre Fehlmann SUI on 'Merit Cup' finished 3rd with a 22-hour backlog. ----- The well-edited summary film (1h 10min) on this important recurring sailing event.

Loris von Siebenthal SUI, the Geneva photographer and sailor (among others in Matchrace Team Eric Monnin SUI) was awarded the Swiss Sports Press Award for his photos of the storm that mixed up the 600 boat fleet of the 2019 Bol d'Or on Lake Geneva. ----- The news.

A few days ago, we promised to put together an entertainment program with sailing (or sea) films during the Corona crisis, an obvious intention that other sailing portals also have been taking up. ----- World Sailing has asked the sailing community to send in the best sailing and regatta films. It will be interesting to see which unknown or forgotten pearls will appear. ----- The news portal Sailingscuttlebutt has already published a list with links to well-known cinema films like Moby Dick, The Boat or Waterworld, as well as documentary films. Certainly interesting will be the portrait of the first one-hand circumnavigator Joshua Slocum CAN (1892-95) or the rounding of Cape Horn in a storm on a 3 master (1929). ----- A good program for the next two weeks !

The latest edition of CNN Mainsail covers exclusively th Middlesea Race of Malta held in October. As always, the two-time Olympic Champion Shirley Robertson GBR moderates the magazine.

In the latest edition of the CNN-Sailing-Video-Magazine 'Mainsail', the five-time Olympic Medalist Ainslie GBR speaks about his way to success, interviewed by Shirley Robertson GBR (2x Olympic Champion). The 22-minute video is dedicated to the Olympic Classes World Championship in Aarhus (August 2018), with Ainslie GBR starting after 16:50.

The oldest shipwreck from Europe's Golden Age of Exploration, found off the coast of Oman, is believed to be that of the 'Esmeralda', which was part of a fleet led by legendary Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama during his second voyage to India (1502-1503).
