Light winds prevailed again at the Miami Olympic Classes Worldcup yesterday with five Medal Races on the program.
Three premature start disqualifications occurred in the hyper-nervous RS:X men windsurfer fleet, one of them by the leading Pawel Tarnowski POL, who dropped on rank 4 overall. The winner was Bing Ye CHN 5 points ahead of Radoslav Furmanski POL. On rank 3 followed Pierre Le Coq FRA. Chinese victory also in the RS:X women windsurfers with Yunxiu Lu CHN. Kathy Spychakov ISR and Charline Picon completed the podium.
In the 49ers, it was an easy game for the leading Erik Heil/Thomas Plössel GER as their first two challengers committed premature starts. Fletcher/Bithell GBR and Fantela/ Fantela CRO followed on the ranks 2 and 3. In the 49ersFX, the leaders Maloney/Meech NZL had a bad start and finishing 9th only in the Medal Race, they lost the first place to the Olympic Champions Martine Grael/Kahena Kunze BRA 2 points ahead of the Kiwi girls.
No change on top of the Nacras 17 with Jason Waterhouse/Lisa Darmanin AUS as winners ahead of Samuel Albrecht/Gabriela Nicolino BRA and Santiago Lange/Cecilia Carranza ARG.
All other classes sailed their last qualification races.
In the 470 men, Jordi Xammar/Nicolas Rodriguez ESP replaced the leading Dahlberg/Bergström SWE on top and the overall win will be decided among the two today. In the 470 women, the first three teams are separated by 4 points only. Frederike Löwe/Anna Markfort GER are first ahead of Hanna Mills/Eilidh McIntyre GBR and Fabienne Oster/Anastsiya Winkel GER.
The most exciting situation in today's double-points-no-discard Medal Race will be in the Finns with the first seven having a chance for the overall win mathematically ! Max Salminen SWE is in the lead 4 points ahead of Jonathan Lobert FRA and Luke Muller USA another 4 points behind on 3rd.
