IMOCA Open 60 - Vendée Globe 2024 - Les Sables d'Olonne FRA - Day 50
Monday, December 30, 2024
In the still inconsistent conditions of the South Atlantic, the leading duo was slowed down again and moved closer together: Yoann Richomme FRA is only 7 miles ahead of Charlie Dalin FRA this morning ! The winner of the day is Sébastien Simon FRA , who is making good progress in south-easterly winds on his bow with an intact foil and has reduced his deficit to 334 miles. The wind direction should continue to be right for Simon up to the equator, but he will have to make do without a foil again in the westerly wind belt north of the trade winds. It will probably be impossible to catch up with the first three without damage. The chasing pack has moved closer together south of the Falklands: Paul Meilhat FRA in 5th place is only 70 miles ahead of Justine Mettraux SUI in 10th place. In between Boris Herrmann GER is only 14 miles behind Meilhat FRA in 8th place. The second chasing pack with Alan Roura SUI is in the process of breaking up: Jean Le Cam FRA was also one of the fastest yesterday with his non-foiler and has distanced ‘his group’ by more than 200 miles. Alan Roura SUI lost his storm jib in 19th place due to a broken halyard, and Isabelle Joschke FRA was hit even harder when a foil broke off after a series of minor damage. Oliver Heer SUI sails unchallenged in 31st place in moderate conditions. ----- The race tracker and the reports.
