IMOCA Open 60 - Vendée Globe 2016/17 - Day 9

The leading group of the fleet has crossed the innertropical convergence zone faster as expected. With a course straight South, Alex Thompson GBR ('Hugo Boss') has doubled his advantage on Armel le Cléac’h FRA with his ‘Banque Populaire VIII’ on 65 nm. Vincent Riou FRA on ‘PRB’ follows closely behind. The first 6 boats have now reached the Southern trade winds and wil cross the Equator today. With Tanguy de la Motte FRA delayed with a repair stop in Mindelo Cape Verdes, Alan Roura SUI with his ‘La Fabrique’ is now one place up on rank 23.
