IMOCA Open 60, VOR 65 - The Ocean Race - Alicante ESP - Day 2

After the moderate conditions at the start, the two fleets are crossing the Strait of Gibraltar this morning in rough conditions with up to 40kn. ----- The first two Open 60s - PRB-Holcim with Kevin Escoffier FRA (and Olympic medallist Susann Beucke GER) leading by 1.5 miles over 11th Hour Racing with Charlie Enright USA (and Justine Mettraux SUI) - have pulled away, with the chasing trio 40 miles back. ----- The VO65 fleet continues to sail close together, with the leading 'Miripuri Foundation' with Antonio Fontes POR only 8 miles ahead of 'Team Jajo' with Jelmer Van Beek NED (and Bouwe Bekking NED) sailing at the back of the fleet. The rough conditions caused the first damage: 'Viva Mexico' with Erik Brockmann MEX had to stop in Almeria with a torn mainsail. ----- The race tracker and the reports.
