IMOCA Open 60, Class 40 IRC - Fastnet Race 2023 - Cowes GBR - Day 3

Yesterday evening, the first monohulls also reached the finish of the Fastnet Race in Cherbourg. In the decreasing winds of the approach to the finish, the fleet moved closer together. ----- 'Macif' (Charlie Dalin/Pascal Bidégorry FRA) was the first IMOCA Open 60 to win the Fastnet Race, just 4 minutes ahead of 'Paprec Arkea' with Yoann Richhomme/Yann Eliès FRA. The favored 88-footer 'Lucky' (the former 'Rambler'), skippered by Brad Butterworth NZL, was 3rd, 15 minutes behind. The 'women's race' was also decided by a very close margin: Samantha Davis GBR ('Initiatives Coeur') was 6th, beating Clarisse Cremer FRA ('Occitane') by just 30 seconds (!) to 7th. Justine Mettraux ('Teamwork') was 9th, 23 minutes behind Davis, just ahead of Vendée Globe winner Yannick Bestaven FRA. This morning, Alan Roura SUI ('Hublot') in 17th place and 2 hours later Oliver Heer SUI in 18th place also reached the finish line. Most of the fleet is still underway. ----- 163 of the 415 teams have abandoned the race, one yacht has even sunk - the report.
