IMOCA Open 60 - Vendée Globe 2024 - Les Sables d'Olonne FRA - Day 44 - New record at Cape Horn

Shortly before midnight yesterday, Yoann Richomme FRA ('Paprec-Arkea') passed Cape Horn after 43 days 11 hours in a new record time - 3 days faster than Armel Le Cléac'h FRA on his record run in 2017. This afternoon, Sébastien Simon FRA will also reach Cape Horn. The chasers are still stuck in a flat transition zone in the South Pacific. Thomas Ruyant FRA in 4th place is now already 1,500 miles behind. Boris Herrmann GER follows in 7th place, 1747 miles back. Justine Mettraux SUI, 1836 miles behind, as last in the chasing group is the only one to benefit from slightly fresher winds and will continue to catch up today. She is only 34 miles behind Paul Meilhat FRA. Alan Roura SUI in 20th place is now 4291 miles in arrears.
