IMOCA Open 60 - Vendée Globe 2024 - Les Sables d'Olonne FRA - Day 72

Tuesday, January 21, 2025
As expected, the storm front reached the top yesterday...and took its toll: Sam Goodchild GBR, in the race for 4th place, tore his mainsail after an involuntary gybe - currently still in 6th place, he is likely to fall further back to the finish. Jérémy Beyou FRA (4th place) still has 875 miles to go to the finish, where he is expected on Thursday.... if he makes it through - he is also currently sailing at 50 knots, in the video report he looks very tense... Justine Mettraux SUI still 8th is caught by the storm front today. If she makes it through without damage, she will set a new women's record - the report. A large group will pass the equator today, perhaps including Alan Roura SUI and Jean Le Cam FRA, who have managed to close the gap to 80 miles in the trade winds. Off the coast of Argentina, Oliver Heer SUI is now 31st. The race tracker and the reports.
