IMOCA Open 60 - Vendée Globe 2024 - Les Sables d'Olonne FRA - Day 80

Wednesday, January 29, 2025
Stormy home stretch for Boris Herrmann GER and Samantha Davis GBR expected to finish 12th/13th this evening. URL=www.facebook.com/borisherrmannracing]Boris Herrmann GER ('Malizia')[/URL] is still 175 miles short this morning. In the fresh southerly winds, he has to sail on the bow with the damaged foil, which forces him to sail with a reduced sail area - but it is cozy on board, as the Video shows. He is expected to finish today from 18h. Whether the conditions will allow him to dock in Les Sables d'Olonne is unknown. Samantha Davis GBR should follow around 22h. The next chasing group still has 1750 miles to go to the finish. The ranks 15-22 are now within 40 miles! Benjamin Ferré FRA in 15th place is the first non-foiler in the fleet. The days' winners also include Alan Roura SUI, who advanced on the 17th place. Oliver Heer SUI makes good progress in southerly trade winds and will pass the equator in 30th place in two days. 140 miles behind Oliver Heer follows Jingkun Xu CHN in 31st place who celebrated on board the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Snake. ----- The race tracker and the reports.
