Optimist - World Championship 2025 - Portoroz SLO - Day seven
Saturday, July 5, 2025
On the penultimate day of Optimist Worlds 2025, all four fleets finally started after some recalls in a shifty, light maestral breeze, succeeding to complete another Final Race. In the afternoon, only the gold fleet managed to start their second race of the day, but shortly before the finish, the wind shifted too much and the race had to be abandoned. ----- At the end of the day, the leading trio had confirmed the positions on top. Nikolaos Pappas GRE, day rank 3, in 1st remains one point ahead of Manuel Orleans Braganca BRA, winner of the day's race. Mihael Zobec SLO sailed a discard result (rank 11) and is now 15 points behind 2nd place, but still in a solid 3rd position overall. ----- Tim Baile remains the best Swiss sailor in 48th place. Top sailors from major English-speaking nations are Matteo Barker NZL 12th, Pablo Munoz Montes USA 15th, William Keilty CAN 37th, Walter Heeley AUS 46th, Charles Holland GBR 47th, and Maeve Donagh IRL 91st.
