Olympic Games 2024 Marseille FRA Day 9 Gold for Marit Bouwmeester NED
Weak winds affected the Olympic sailing programme yesterday. The 470s were not used at all, the Formula Kite and the ILCA 6 were only able to complete one race. The ILCAs have now completed their qualifications and Marit Bouwmeester NED is already the Olympic winner with a 21-point lead ahead of todays Medal Race. Her second gold medal after Rio 2016, her 4th Olympic medal - making her the most successful female sailor of all time! Anne-Marie Rindom DEN has also secured her silver medal, the 3rd Olympic medal for the Dane. Line Flem-Höst NOR, Maud Jayet SUI and Elenea Vorobeva CRO will duel for the bronze medal today - the report ILCA 6. In the ILCA 7, Matthew Wearn AUS is on the verge of successfully defending his title. With a 14-point deficit, Pavlos Kontides CYP only has a theoretical chance of winning gold. The Cypriot - who already won the silver medal in London 2012 and thus became a national hero - goes into the medal race with a 10-point lead over Stefano Peschiera PER, with Michael Beckett GBR also still in with a chance of a medal 5 points behind him. Despite yesterday's race win, Philipp Buhl GER misses out on the Medalo Race in 13th place - the ILCA 7 report. The Nacra 17s were able to complete their 3 races. Ruggero Tita/Caterina Banti ITA had to concede two 6th places, but remain well ahead with a 14 point lead over Mateo Majdalani/Eugenia Bosco ARG and Micah Wilkinson/Erica Dawson NZL, who are level on points - the Nacras report. The 470s did not sail, after 7 races, Lara Vadlau/Lukas Mähr AUT are in the lead with 5 points ahead of Jordy Xammar/Nora Brugman ESP. In 10th place, Yves Mermod/Maja Siegenthaler SUI are fighting for a place in the Medal Race today. In Formula Kite, Elena Lengweiler SUI has been relegated to 3rd place despite another heat win: the jury has recalculated the penalty points for her protest win, to the detriment of the Swiss rider. Elli Aldridge GBR is now in the lead by two points over Daniela Moroz USA. One point behind, Elena Lengweiler SUI and Lauriane Nolot FRA are level on points. There was also only one race for the kite-foil men, with Max Maeder SGP taking the lead with a 3rd place ahead of Toni Vodisek SLO, who is equal on points.
