The 470 World Championships on the Olympic waters of Enoshima JPN were concluded this morning UTC with the Medal Races with only small modifications on the podiums. ----- Matthew Belcher/Will Ryan AUS secured their seventh World Champion title ahead of Jordi Xammar/Nicolas Rodriguez ESP. Thanks to winning the Medal Race, Dahlberg/Bergström SWE moved up on the Bronze rank. ----- In the 470 women, Hannah Mills/Eilidh McIntyre GBR won the duel against Ai Kondo/Miho Yoshioka JPN. Bronze went to Camille Lecointre/Aloise Retornaz FRA. ----- The Olympic nations berth went in the Men to Greece, Russia, China and Turkey, in the Women to Poland, Australia, Brazil, the Netherlands, New Zealand and Germany. ----- The North American teams were definitely not at ease with the rather rough conditions in Japan. The best placed Stuart McNay/David Hughes USA (Trevor Moore Foundation) on rank 18 were much below their standard. Fortunately enough, the Olympic nations qualification had been realized last year already. Trevor Davis/Trevor Bornarth USA (Severn Sailing Association/Oyster Bay 470 Team) as 51st and Joshua Yale/Michael Montagnese CAN as 52nd are the backmarkers of the 52 boat fleet. ----- Sticking together in the last third of the 470 women fleet were Atlantic Brugman Cabot/Nora Brugman Cabot USA (Shelter Island YC) on 30th, Nikole Barnes/Lara Dallman-Weiss USA (St. Francis YC/New York YC) on 31st and Carmen Cowles/Emma Cowles USA (Larchmont YC) on 32nd. Obviously, the hoped Olympic nation berth was far away. Emily Bornarth/Laura Slovensky USA (Oyster Bay 470 Team) remained on rank 38 among the 39 participants. ----- The ranking lists and the news.
