Yesterday, the International Paralympic Committee decided not to reinstate sailing in the Paralympic programme. Sailing had lost its status as a Paralympic sport after the London Games due to a lack of global coverage, according to the official reasoning. Since then, the World Sailing Federation has made great efforts, and with the choice of the Hansa 303 as the boat, the spread could be massively expanded. John McRoberts/Scott Lutes CAN, winner of the RS Ventura fleet races, were relegated from rank 1 by the Italians in the winner-takes-all final race. In Japan, the Disabled-Sailing World Championship took place. In the largest class, the Hansa 303-Double with 52 teams from 11 nations, the title was won by Yuna Nakayama/Sarina Shibata JPN. The Final Races at the Para World Championship on Lake Michigan were held yesterday in light and variable winds.
The top-10 of the 2.4m sailed a classic Medal Race. Matthews Bugg AUS succeeded to replace Damien Séguin FRA on top grasping Gold. On rank 3 behind Séguin FRA finished Dee Smith USA 3.
The 10 best Hansa 303 sailed a Semi Final with the best 4 qualifying for the Final. In the Women, Ana Paula Marques BRA won the title ahead of Genevieve Wickham US and Violeta Del Reino ESP. In the Men, Gold went to Christopher Symonds AUS winning ahead of Waldemar Wozniak POL and the defending Champion Piotr Cichocki POL.
In the RS Venture, the dominators of the week Will Street/Jonathan Currell GBR remained on top winning ahead of Enrique Vives/Gabriel Barroso de Maria ESP and John McRoberts/Scott Lutes CAN.

Matthew Bugg AUS has taken the lead in the 2.4m with the day ranks 2/1/1, one point ahead of Damien Séguin FRA on 2nd. The French Paralympic Champion announced a few days before the Worlds, that he had just signed a contract with a sponsor for his Vendée-Globe-Project 2020. In Sweden, the World Championship of the 2.4mIJ, the Mini 12er, was held last week, the Class that was in use in the Paralympics. After 10 races, Stell Berlin SWE grasped the title ahead of the Paralympic sailor Megan Pascoe GBR. Marko Dahlberg FIN took Bronze. 71 skippers from 11 nations participated.

As expected, Ambrogio Beccaria ITA finished leg 1 in Horta as first of the Series Minis. This morning at 7hrs crossed Félix De Navacelle FRA the line as 2nd, while the fight for rank 3 will probably be decided on the finish line only between Amélie Grassi FRA and Valentin Gautier SUI separated by one mile only 19nm before the arrival. Since Sunday, the Vendée-Globe-winner François Gabart FRA has been on standby in Port-la-Forêt to wait for a optimal winds to start his solo round-the-world record attempt. The valid current record is 49 days and 3 hours, established last year by Thomas Coville FRA. At present, there is no adequate weather window showing up.

The Paralympic Classes World Championship was concluded in Kiel on Sunday. Three more races were held in a 15-18 kn wind.
The situation in the 2.4m before the last race was more than exciting: The frist three boats were separated by 2 points only. Heiko Kröger GER controlled the nerves on his home waters grasping his second World Champions' title. Matt Bugg AUS and Damien Séguin FRA followed on the ranks 2 and 3. Dee Smith USA was demonstrating his class with five top-ten results, but three downers (UFS, DNF, DNC) relegated him on the 16th place overall.
Violeta del Reino ESP won the title in the Hansa 303 women, and Piotr Cichocki POL is World Champion in the Hansa 303 men. Edward Leroy USA did not sail the last four races and finished the Championship on rank 24.

After yesterday's races sailed again in good conditions, the Paralympics are now in its crucial phase with another two heats today, and a final race tomorrow Saturday. The first decisions concerning the Medals will probably be made today already.
Daniel Fitzgibbon/Liesl Tesch AUS won again both races in the Skud-18 and have now a 15 points' lead and a 2nd race rank as discard result ! They will hardly miss the Gold Medal. On rank 2 follow at equal points John McRoberts/Jackie Gay CAN and Alexandra Rickham/Niki Birrell GBR, and with a 6 points' backlog, Monika Gibes/Piotr Cichocki POL remain within reach of the Medals. Very light winds and a strong current made sailing challenging on the second day of the Paralympics on Guanabara Bay. The Skud-18 and Sonars completed one race, the 2.4 m race had to be abandoned.
