The last four Medal Races today Sunday are run without Swiss. Apparently, the Swiss teams are not yet able to achieve top results in a fresher breeze, but nevertheless, they secured the Olympic nations' berths in the classes 470-M, Laser Radial, Laser Standard, RS:X-M and Star. The Swiss Olympic selection limit - 12th nation - was only reached by Nathalie Brugger SUI and Flavio Marazzi SUI. The direct selection - a 5th place - was out of reach, and the selection process continues according to the regulations. The only Swiss National Team class without an Olympic ticket are the 470 women, but there remains a second chance for Stéphanie and Romy Hasler SUI or another women's team at the World Championship 2012.
The performance of the Swiss Team was solid, and Yannick Brauchli/Romuald Hausser SUI even succeeded to exceed their best performance so far during a top competition. The continuous progress made by Guillaume Girod was impressive, and finishing 51st overall, he secured the Laser nations' berth for Switzerland. Higher expectation had – without doubt - Nathalie Brugger SUI and Marazzi/De Maria, but they had to realize, that the top boats in their classes sail in a different league these days. Much to do in the remaining 9 months to the Olympics 2012 ! All results.
