Light winds prevailed over Mallorca yesterday, start of the second half of the Worldcup event with the qualifications for tomorrow's Medal Races in the crucial phase. Australia has taken the lead in both 470 fleets: Matthew Belcher/Malcom Page AUS are first in the 470 men with a 7 points' advantage on Calabrese/Delafuente ARG and with Kivell/Ryan AUS, another Australian boat, closely behind. The former leaders Leboucher/Garos FRA dropped on rank 5. In the 470 women, Elise Rechichi/Belinda Stowell AUS replaced the previous leaders Emmanuelle Rol/Hélène Defrance FRA by a small margin. Ai Kondo/Wakako Tabata JPN progressed on the 3rd place, closely followed by Kadelbach/Belcher GER. Still 10 points is the advantage of Warrer/Hansen DEN in the 49ers, with Pink/Peacock GBR and Dyen/Christidis FRA following on the positions 2 and 3. Kirkland/Kirkland BER were the day's best (ranks 1/5), advancing on rank 7 overall. Outstanding Ben Ainslie GBR in the Finns with two race wins. Zach Railey USA now 2nd and Daniel Birgmark SWE 3rd have switched positions. See the Finn class report. The lead in the Starboats is also British with the Olympic Champion Percy/Simpson GBR on position 1 followed by the 2008 Silver medalists Scheidt/Prada BRA 8 points behind. Pepper/Taylor NZL are now 3rd. As best of the day (1/3), Rohart/Ponsot FRA moved up on rank 7. The winners in the Women Match Race quarterfinals were Claire Leroy FRA (3-0 vs Lucy McGregor GBR), Anna Tunnicliffe USA (3-0 against Ekaterina Skudina RUS), Olivia Price AUS (3-1 vs Mandy Mulder NED) and Tamara Echegoyen ESP (3-1 vs Sally Barkow USA).
