Formula Kite - European Championship 2024 - Los Alcazares ESP

The Olympic Kiteboarding European Championships begin today on the Mar Menor, a large lagoon in south-east Spain. The men will be sailing in 4 groups, with Max Maeder SGP as the big favorite. Switzerland will be represented by Gian-Andrea Stragiotti, Bruce Kessler, Marcin Kroczak, Céderic Baker, and Karl Maeder. Nitai Hasson/Noa Lasry ISR are already 15 points behind in 2nd place.  470, Nacra 17, iQ-Foil - Mallorca Sailing Center Regatta - El Arenal ESP - Day 1 Yesterday, in the run-up to the Olympic World Cup, the Sailing Centre Regatta began in El Arenal with 3 races. ----- With 28 teams, the 470 fleet is very competitive. Keiju Okada/Miho Yoshioka JPN took the lead, Nitai Hasson/Noa Lasry ISR follow 1 point behind, and the new world champions Jordi Xammar/Nora Brugman ESP are in 3rd place. Yves Mermod/Maja Siegenthaler SUI started the series furiously with two premature starts and are right at the end of the rankings. ----- The Nacra 17 completed 4 races, with Mateo Majdalani/Eugenia Bosco ARG and Paul Kohlhoff/Alica Stuhlemmer GER tied on points at the top. iQ-Foil - Foiling Games - Cadiz ESP - Final results

The final day of the Foiling Games in Cadiz also saw very windy conditions with big waves. Too much for the U17 juniors and the U19 women, who did not get to race. The special format of the Medal Races once again shook up the rankings. ----- The men's Medal Race was won by Nacho Baltasar ESP, with Pawel Tarnowski POL and Michal Polak POL completing the podium. Sebastian Schärer SUI is 23rd among the 58 participants. ----- Lina Erzen SLO won the women's event ahead of Theresa Steinlein GER and Ingrid Puusta EST. Foiling in 3 metre waves and 20 knots of wind... the Cadiz area demanded everything from the more than 200 windsurfers yesterday! ----- Michal Polak POL took the lead in the men's race, while former leader Sebastian Kördel GER dropped back to 7th place. Sebastian Schärer SUI is now 23rd. ----- Theres Steinlein GER is the new leader in the women's race, having dominated the action yesterday with 4 race wins. ----- In the U19 rankings, Carola Colasanto ITA and Linda Oprandi ITA are tied for the lead in the girls' category. Chloë Huguenin SUI is now 14th. ----- Igor Lewinski POL is now at the top of the U19 men's rankings, 8 points behind Mattia Saoncella ITA. After the 4 slaloms on the start day, five course races were on the programme yesterday. Big waves and fresh winds of around 18 knots made for challenging conditions. With four race wins, Sebastian Kördel GER took the lead in the men's race, followed by Michael Polak POL one point behind. Sebastian Schärer SUI is now 20th. Tuva Oppedal NOR remained on top in the women's race, Katerina Svikova CZE moved up to second place. Theresa Steinlein GER moved up to third place on equal points. Manon Berger SUI is now 18th. Upset at the top! Neither Emma Wilson GBR nor Luuc Van Opzeeland NED, who both dominated the entire week, were able to maintain their lead in the Medal Series final. ----- Sharon Kantor ISR won the women's Medal Race ahead of Emma Wilson GBR and Katy Spychakov ISR. ----- In the men's final, Nicolo Renna ITA claimed his first title with an attack on the last upwind. iQ-Foil - World Championship 2024 Lanzarote ESP - Day 5

The qualifications for today's Medal Series were completed yesterday with another 5 races. ----- The two leaders Luuc Van Opzeeland NED and Emma Wilson GBR have qualified directly for the final. Ranks 2-10 will sail quarters and semi-finals today. An almost exclusively European affair: Mariana Aguilar MEX and Grae Morris AUS in the men's event are the only non-Europeans in the final. Although Theresa Steinlein GER misses out on the Medal Series in 18th place, she wins the only available national starting place for the Olympic Games for Germany. In the men's event, the nation's starting place goes to Denmark (Johan Soe DEN, 17th place). After the early retirement of Elia Colombo SUI - he finished 56th - the Swiss were unable to achieve any top results. Sebastian Schärer SUI followed in 74th place out of 118 participants. In winds of initially 12 and later dropping to 8 knots, another 5 course races were sailed yesterday. Today, the qualifications for the Medal Races of the top 10 will be concluded with the marathon and further course races. ----- After a total of 15 races, Emma Wilson GBR leads the women's ranking with a 20-point advantage over Pilar Lamadrid ESP. A further 18 points behind her, Katy Spychakov ISR has moved up to third place. The strong Israeli team is holding its internal Olympic selection at this World Championship. Windsurfing is the only sport in Israel with Olympic medals. ----- In the men's event, there is a duel at the top between Luuc Van Opzeeland NED and Nicolo Renna ITA, who is 7 points behind. In best conditions of up to 20 knots, 5 course races were sailed yesterday. ----- Emma Wilson GBR continued to excel, winning the five women's races in her group. The iQ Foil World Championships opened yesterday with 4 slaloms for the men and 5 for the women. ----- Luuc Van Opzeeland NED and Emma Wilson GBR are the clear leaders with 4 race wins each.  470, 49er, Formula-Kite, iQ-Foil-Windsurf - US Olympic Trials - Miami FL, USA - Final results The first round of the US Trials ended yesterday in Miami with three races held in moderate seabreeze. The 5 other Olympic classes will hold their trials next week. There were no more changes at the top yesterday, despite some narrow margins: Ian Barrows/Hans Henken USA in the 49er and Dominique Stater USA in the iQ-Foil windsurfer are thus directly qualified for the Olympic Games in Marseille. In the two classes that have already secured an Olympic Nations starting place for the USA, Dominique Stater USA appears to be on course for the Olympics in the women's iQ Foil, going into the final day with a 5-point lead. It remains tight at the top of the rankings. In the 49er, Ian Barrows/Hans Henken USA now have a one-point lead over Andrew Mollerus/Ian McDiarmid USA. The US 49ers have already secured an Olympic Nations starting place, as have the US iQ Foil women, where Dominique Stater USA leads Bryn Muller USA by 3 points after 18 races. Youth Sailing World Championship 2023 - Buzios BRA - Final results

The World Sailing Federation's Junior World Championships ended yesterday with sunshine and up to 20 knots of sea breeze. There were only a few shifts in the medal positions: ----- Thanks to two race wins, Marie Mazuay/Clément Guignard SUI moved up to third place in the Nacra 15, just 5 points behind the new world champions Daniel and Nora Garcia ESP. Silver goes to Cody Roe/Brooks Mertz USA. ----- With 13 wins in 14 races, Max Maeder SGP was once again in a class of his own in the Kite Foil, with Qibin Huang CHN and Riccardo Pianosi ITA completing the podium. There were light winds on day 3 of the Junior World Championship in Buzios, which particularly favored the Italians, who now lead the classifications in the men's ILCA 6 (Mattia Cesana ITA), the women's ILCA 6 (Emma Mattivi ITA), the women's iQ-Foil Windsurf (Carola Colasanto ITA) and the men's 420 (Quan Cardi/Mattia Tognocchi ITA). In the men's iQ-Foil, Stanislav Trepczynski POL took the lead with three race wins, 2 points ahead of Leonardo Tomasini ITA. Max Maeder SGP, who has won all 8 races in the men's kite foils, continues to excel. Catalina Turienzo ARG and Derin Atakan TUR share the lead in the women's kite foils. After the moderate conditions of the start day, yesterday saw the classic Buzios sea breeze with 15-10 knots. There were 6 races for the kite-foilers. In the men's event, the very young world leaders are at the start, led by world champion Max Maeder SGP, who won all 6 races. Ricardo Pianosi ITA follows in 2nd place, 7 points behind, while Gian-Andrea Stragiotti SUI got off to a strong start in 5th place. Catalina Turienza ARG leads the fleet of female kiters. There are new leaders in windsurfing: Krystina Pinasova CZE leads the women, Leonardo Tomasini ITA is at the top of the men. Robin Zeley SUI lost a few places and is now 20th. Youth Sailing World Championship 2023 - Buzios BRA - Day 1

The Junior World Championship started yesterday in Buzios in moderate winds. 9 of the 11 classes were in action, and only the kiteboarders stayed ashore. ----- After 2 races, Hidde Schraffordt NED leads the ILCA 6 (48 participants/48 nations). Conditions remain perfect in Brazil for the last Wing Foil World Cup of the year.
