Louis Vuitton Trophy Mascalzone Latino advances to final, TNZAzzurra 11
It took three races, but the America’s Cup Challenger of Record, ‘Mascalzone Latino’ and skipper Gavin Brady NZL, pulled it off. After a fairly easy win in the first of their semifinal races against ‘Artemis’, they were over early in the second, essentially handing the win to the Swedish team. In race three, ‘Mascalzone’ held ‘Artemis’ in check to advance to the finals. In the other pairing ‘Azzurra’ with Francesco Bruni ITA incurred a penalty on the first beat in their race against ‘Team New Zealand’ but they got two breaks. First TNZ had problems with a sheet under the bow, which kept them from gybing on the first downwind, then they caught a shift and better pressure on the second beat which but them ahead far enough to wipe off their penalty and win the race to go up 1-0. In the second race, ‘Azzurra’ hung a pre-start penalty on ‘TNZ,' but the Kiwis, holding a 135-meter lead, managed to do their penalty turn at the finish line, winning by a whisker and evening the series at 1-1. Decision on Saturday. See all the results and the videos.
