Moth Europeans 2010 Silvaplana SUI Babbage AUS leads, Gulari USA 3rd
Almost perfect weather conditions for the first day of the 2010 Moth Europeans on Lake Silvaplana SUI. Perhaps the biggest news: No rain. The local Maloja wind showed signs of life and made the 85 competitors fly over the waters. After three races Scott Babbage AUS (8) leads reigning world Champion Simon Payne GBR (9) and Bora Gulari USA (12). Chris Rast USA (43) is in 12th. Rast was crew on the Swiss 470 at the 1996 Savannah Olympics for Jean-Pierre Ziegert SUI, the organiser of the event, who's also our French editor and 6th overall in the standings. Go Chris! Go JP!
However the man of the race was Nathan Outteridge AUS - 49er Worldcup winner last week at Sail for Gold 2010 in Weymouth GBR. He scored two bullets and had to abandon one race due to gear failure. Look for him after the discard comes in... All results and the report.
