America's Cup - Foiling Tacks

The name of the game at the last America's Cup on the AC-72 multihulls was the ability to do Foiling Gybes. In the future, it will be mandatory to do Foiling Tacks as well with the ultimate objective to race a whole course without touching the water with the hulls. See the the video of the SoftBank Japan team that did it a few days ago. "The foling tack, a game changer"! And only some days later, the Oracle Team USA did it as well.

Match Racing - WS World Ranking List - August 24, 2016

The World Sailing Match Race Rankings have been released and Taylor Canfield ISV remains top of the Open section, while Anna Kjellberg SWE moves up to nbr 1 in the women's rankings. Canfield still holds an advantage over his big rival Ian Williams GBR. Anna Kjellberg takes the top spot in the women's division changing places with former nbr 1, Camilla Ulrikkeholm DEN, who drops to nbr 2. Kjellberg moved up thanks to a win at the Grade 1 Lysekil Women's Match.

Finally taking top spot for the first time in over a year in the last rankings release, Canfield still holds an advantage over his big rival Ian Williams (GBR).

Winner of the Grade 1 Energa Sopot Match Race, Nicklas Dackhammar (SWE) moves up to #48, his best ranking.

Anna Kjellberg takes the top spot in the women's division changing places with former #1, Camilla Ulrikkeholm (DEN), who drops to #2. Kjellberg moved up thank to a win at the Grade 1 Lysekil Women's Match.
Anne Claire Le Berre (FRA) sits third in the women's rankings.

 Dragon - Gold Cup 2016 - Hornbaek DEN - Day 3 After the unplanned break due to the passing storm, the Dragon Gold Cup in Denmark continued yesterday with race 2 in a 14-18 kn wind won by Grant Gordon GBR/Kasper Harsberg DEN/Ruairidh Scott GBR. New on top of the rankings are Markus Brennecke GER/Jochen Schümann GER/Theis Palm DEN thanks to a 3rd race rank. Only one point behind on rank 2 follows Henrik Witzmann GER/UAE. Eugenij Braslavets UKR/UAE is on the 3rd place.

 Moth - UK National Championship 2016 - Weymouth GBR - Final results No wind on the last day of the British Moth Nationals in Weymouth. Superior winner of the Championship is Robert Greenalgh GBR with 6 bullets and 3 2nd places in 9 races ahead of David Hivey GBR and Dylan Fletcher GBR. The best non-Brit is Max Maege GER on the 9th place among the 73 participants from 5 nations.

 A-Cat - UK National Championship 2016 - Rutland GBR - Final results That the Moth-Vice-World Champion did not show up at the Moth Nationals had a valid reason. Chris Rashley GBR opted for the foiling A-Cats and won the British Champion's title in this class ahead of Paul Larsen GBR, famous for the speed world record on his Sail-Rocket. 24 participants from 5 nations were present.  14-Footer - World Championship 2016 - Carnac FRA - Day 5 The 14-Footers had their lay day yesterday and today the crucial phase of the Worlds begins. Up to now, the Championship was controlled by Glen Truswell/Sam Pascoe GBR with three bullets in the moderate wind races. Six points behind, Jones/Fitzgerald GBR remain in the fight for the title. The ranking list has been dominated by the British and Australians so far. Oliver Voss/Eike Ehrig GER on the 11th place are the best Germans among the 76 teams.

 14-Footer - World Championship 2016 - Carnac FRA - Day 4 After the rough Sunday in Carnac FRA with winds exceeding 20 kn, the sun and a moderate breeze between 12 and 15 kn were back, conditions, that make Glen Truswell/Sam Pascoe GBR apparently unbeatable. Booking the third bullet in four races, they lead with a 6 points' advantage on Jones/Fitzgerald GBR. Gilbert/McGrane GBR on 3rd are 3 points behind. 78 teams.

 Dragon - Gold Cup 2016 - Hornbaek DEN - Day 2 The Dragon Goldcup began on Sunday in Hornbaek DEN north of Helsingör, and one race could be sailed in a moderate wind. Yesterday, a fresh breeze exceeding 30 kn filled in and racing was cancelled for the day. Gavia Wilkinson-Cox GBR and her team won the only race mastering the strong currents the best. On rank 2 followed Jörgen Schönherr DEN, another specialist in currents. 74 Dragons from 14 nations.

 Moth - UK National Championship 2016 - Weymouth GBR - Day 3 A perfect stage for the Foiler Moths with sun and a 15 kn wind in Weymouth yesterday, and 4 races were completed. Robert Greenalgh GBR finished 1/1/1/2 and took the overall lead 4 points ahead. David Hivey GBR and Dylan Fletcher GBR were the only ones keeping more or less pace with the leader. The best non-Brit is Maximilian Mäge GER on the 8th place.

 14-Footer - World Championship 2016 - Carnac FRA - Day 3 Since last Friday, the 14-Footers have been sailing their World Championship in Carnac FRA. After two light-wind days, a fresh wind exceeding 20 kn prevailed yesterday. Three races have been completed so far with the British teams dominating.
Glen Truswell/Sam Pascoe GBR, winners of the two light-wind races, are in the lead with Gilbert/McGrane GBR and Massey/Hillary GBR as first chasers.

 Melges 20 - World Championship 2016 - Scarlino ITA - Final results Michael Illbruck GER/John Kostecki USA/Federico Michetti ITA grasped the Melges-20 World's title with the ranks 2 and 5 in the last two races yesterday. Drew Freides USA and his team, leading during the whole Championship, had as miserable day with the ranks 12 and 39 and dropped on rank 2. Krystof Kremec POL jumped on the podium with two race wins yesterday finishing 3rd.

 Bénéteau Figaro - Douarnenez-Horta - Day 2 The fleet has made good mileage in a fresh northwesterly breeze and was already in the approach to Cape Finisterre at the northwest point of Spain this morning. The leading boats are still closely together. Yoann Richomme FRA leads one mile ahead of Charlie Dalin FRA and Gildas Morvan. Three of the five newcomers in the fleet (the 'Bizuths') were already forced to abandon the race.

 J/70 - Sailing Champions League 2016 - Act 1 - St.Petersburg RUS - Final results Winners in the German duel in Act 1 of the Sailing Champions League was the Berliner YC with Stefan Mölle/Valentin Gebhard/Max Nickel/Philipp Bruns GER replacing the so far leading Norddeutsche RV with Tobias Schadewaldt GER on rank 1. In the Swiss duel for rank 3, the SN Geneva remained on the 3rd place ahead of the RV Bodensee, both with a excellent performance among the 23 Club teams from 12 nations.

Laser Standard & Radial - U21 European Championship 2016 - Split CRO - Final results

 Laser Standard & Radial - U21 European Championship 2016 - Split CRO - Final results The European U21 Laser Standard and Radial Championship was concluded yesterday with the races 8 & 9 sailed in moderate winds. Finishing twice as second, Joel Rodriguez ESP finally won the title clearly with an 11 points' advantage on Jonatan Vadnai HUN, a revenge for the defeat two weeks ago at the U21 Worlds in Kiel. Bronze went to Nils Theuninck SUI, leaving the tied Patrick Dopping DEN on rank 4 thanks to a race win.
In the Lasers Radial, Sandra Lulic CRO was the undisputed winner with an 18 points advantage on Monika Mikkola FIN. As best of the day with the ranks 1 and 3, Ekaterina Zyuzina RUS grasped the Bronze Medal on the final day. At equal points with the Russian, Vasileia Karachaliou GRE and Clementine Thopson GBR finished on the ranks 4 and 5.

 Platu 25 - World Championship 2016 - RV Brunnen SUI - Final results The superior Eric Monnin SUI with his French team had everything under control on the last day of the Platu-25 World Championship in Brunnen SUI, again with best Lake Uri thermal breeze conditions, winning the title with an 18 points' advantage ahead of Matthias Bermejo SUI. The Italian duel for Bronze went in favor of Tommaso De Bellis ITA with a first place in the final race. The defending champion Francesco Lanera ITA missed the podium by one points.

In a very light breeze, the winner was Alexander Novoselov RUS. Drew Freides USA and his team on rank 3 were the only ones of the top-10 teams with a one-digit finish, extending the lead on Michael Illbruck GER on 4 points. New on rank 3 is Achille Onorato ITA.

 J/70 - Sailing Champions League 2016 - Act 1 - St.Petersburg RUS - Day 2 Perfect sailing conditions on the second day of the Sailing Champions' League in St.Petersburg RUS with a 20 kn wind and sun. The Norddeutsche RV with Tobias Schadewaldt GER defended the first place with two race wins closely followed by the Berliner YC with Max Mölle GER. The SN Genève - yesterday excellent as well with the ranks 2/1/1/1 - follows on rank 3. On 4th, loosing a few points, is the RC Bodensee of Julian Flessati SUI.

 Classes ACVL - Translémanique en Solitaire - SN Genève - Win for Alain Gautier FRA In a varying race in an up to 20 kn wind, the former Vendée-Globe winner Alain Gautier FRA finished first of the Solo Translémanique on a Psaros 33 after 13 hrs 14 minutes. François Bopp SUI on a Psaros 40 and Lucien Cujean SUI on a Luthy F10 followed on the ranks 2 and 3. Alan Roura SUI, the only Swiss entry to the Vendée Globe in two months, was 4th. 115 SolovSkippers participated, 80 have finished up to now (7 a.m. CET).
